Paradise in the California Central Valley?!
Wow, what an incredible experience! Across the board, this was an exceptional find with exceptional service and exceptional amenities.
First, I have to rave about the Innkeeper, Julieth. She worked tirelessly to make sure our stay was pleasant. From getting us ice and filtered water, to reheating our leftovers for us, and texting us when the bar was opened, the list goes on. She is a relative of the owner and personified the ideal of an Innkeeper like a five-star luxury concierge! Thank you, Julieth!
Upon arrival, the Innkeeper gives you a full tour of the property, describing the history of the home, pointing out original Victorian elements and furniture from the original owners. The home itself has been fully restored and furnished with authentic (and authentic-adjacent) antique and antique-style furnishings. The tables, chairs, wall decorations, glasses, dishes, lamps, rugs - make you feel like you’re walking back in time.
Every room has a theme and is beautifully decorated. The bedrooms all have beautifully retrofitted en suite bathrooms and air conditioning. While the rooms do not have individual refrigerators, the Innkeeper is more than happy to put your leftover items in the refrigerator in the kitchen.
The kitchen is not available for guests to use unless they are renting the entire property. From peeking in through the windows and talking with the Innkeeper, it has been beautifully returned back to Victorian-style appliances and furnishings as well.
The hotel (it feels weird calling it that) offers a complimentary self-serve happy hour from their antique built in bar with all the spirits and mixers you need as well as beer, red wine and white wine. Jazz music plays downstairs from Sonos speakers and the setting is truly magical. Personally, I had gin martinis (yes, plural) every night we were there! My wife enjoyed the white wine. And if we were out by the pool, Julieth even offered to bring the wine to us. In the mornings, coffee and pastries are available in the beautiful dining room.
The pool area is wonderful - pristine clean pool and hot tub, umbrellas, loungers with thick cushions, and a beautiful large margarita fountain that turned on every day at 4 PM.
Ample street and off-street parking is available, and the property is located an easy 15 min walk from downtown Visalia.
Overall, I cannot say enough about this incredible property. While Visalia is not really a destination town, the JD Hyde Historic Inn is definitely a destination property. This place is perfect for a wedding or a family reunion or a weekend getaway or a place to stop after camping a few days in Sequoia/Kings Canyon. I recommend staying at least 2 nights so you can really experience this place.
Five stars and we will return.

Julieth the innkeeper was AMAZING, she gave me a thorough tour of the house, answered all of my questions and gave me some background and historical information. What I appreciated the most, though were the little details that made me feel taken care of, like the delicious, homemade banana and pumpkin spice muffins, the glass of wine, and the quick replies to my questions through text, she was so patient and gracious throughout the entire stay.
After a long day at my conference, I would walk over to the pool area, dip my toes in the cold water and drink my glass of wine, it really felt like heaven, you will not be disappointed by staying here!
