Quiet, gently breezy, roomy, convenient--and affordable!
After a month at sea in a steel bunk, and a night in an airport hotel in Honolulu, I arrived at Keeau Place. It's roomy, close to Hawaii Volcanoes N.P., the windows opened to let the breeze through, and it was quiet. And I could cook in the full kitchen, look at the forest from the roomy back porch, and be still after a long research cruise and flying for days at a time.
Keeau Place is just down the road from the grocery and a few restaurants in Keeau, and I've never felt at home so fast outside of backwoods New Mexico.
Next to the door were a couple of adjustable walking sticks. I figured they were there because I'd need them, and I did--on the Kilauea trails and on the slopes of Mauna Loa where the road is cut by the flows of 2018.
Keeau Place is ideal if you're kind of quiet and introspective, if you want to go somewhere without thundering traffic and blinking lights. I frequently think of my 2 nights there and feel like I should come back to the Big Island.

Bucolic setting
Bucolic address and hosts at your service. Lester and Suzanne are at your disposal so that your stay will pass at the best. The apartment is spacious and very well equipped, it is ideally close to volcanos park or Akalakafulls.

Immaculate
It is very easy to feel completely at home here. Every amenity you are used to is available, ranging from a fully equipped kitchen and a washing machine (with soap!) to a pair of umbrellas that came in extremely handy during what was apparently the wettest season of the year.
Ideal place for a base HQ -- about 20 min to Hilo, 40 min to Volcanoes NP, an hour to Mauna Kea. Perfect place to relax people, in a semi-isolated suburban setting. Ideal for 1 or 2 people plus a kid.
Some logistical notes:
-- Check in time is 2pm. My flight was due to land early, so I called the caretakers and they managed to get the suite ready by 11:30. (I hadn't realized what a massive effort it must have taken them to do that until I got there and saw the place -- it was astonishingly spic and span.)
-- Check out (by 10am) couldn't be easier -- you just leave.
-- Both Apple and Google maps give you perfect directions, which I was (needlessly) worried about in case I had to get there late at night. Easy to get to, easy to recognize when you get there (there's a green reflective road sign at the front of the driveway), and the directions they send you by email are quite comprehensive.
-- The room lock is via a passcode which is sent to you a few days ahead of arrival. You punch in the numbers, which unlocks the deadbolt. Twist it open, then the door knob, and you are in. Locking it is a similar process -- hit the "space bar" key, which activates the deadbolt, turn it, give it a few seconds to deactivate, and that's it.
-- There is parking for two large car/SUVs or three compacts to the left side of the driveway, ample for the two suites that are on the property.
-- Wifi was easy to connect to, and was quite fast.
-- There is plenty of utensils and "emergency" rations in the kitchen, but you may want to lay in your own supplies of coffee and other essentials.

Excellent place to stay!!!
This cozy studio in Keaau is heaven on earth. Close to everything-it has everything!!! Beautiful outdoor space with a grill, jacuzzi and washer/dryer. You will love your stay and enjoy exploring the east side of da island!!

Fantastic
We stayed a week in the fantastic apartment. The equipment includes everything you can imagine, the owners are very friendly and ... the "own" Jacuzzi on the terrace is awesome. We would recommend anyone to choose this accommodation.
