Stay here...the StayPineapple is sweet!
Perfect location, especially if you would be going to the theatre. Atmosphere is top notch as the building is a national historic landmark and they kept so much character on the floors and rooms, but do not fear...things are updated! Rooms are a good size for a city and have everything you need. As always, LOVE the separate duvets so I don't have to share with my spouse. :) They only complaint is that at least in our room the coffee maker is located on top of the dresser and it blocks the corner of the TV screen, especially if you are in the bed by the window. Speaking about the windows...so huge and great for looking out over the city. Definitely meets my two minimal requirements...clean and safe. We also utilized valet services which were easy to use. All in all, the entire staff was so friendly and helpful, especially DeJuan during check-in, acknowledging my birthday was a very nice touch! We love this location and have already recommended it to others.

The staff is fantastic!
100/100! Another fantastic stay where the staff went above and beyond. We’ve stayed here multiple times and everyone is always so friendly and helpful. They surprised us with some extras this trip and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect given some stressful events the week prior. The new restaurant is great and as always the location can’t be beat. Love staying in a historical hotel and look forward to a return stay late summer.

This is my 18th stay here and it was amazing as always. It felt like i was going home and it’s in the perfect area for the bean and art institute. If you’re going for a concert at soilder field the 146 bus picks you up right outside the hotel.

Know what you're getting
If you are looking for a 2-star hotel, this is a great stay. If you are expecting 4-star, you will be deeply disappointed, at best. Great staff - so friendly, accommodating, and efficient. For a 2-star hotel, they seek to add some fun, appreciated touches (the wine and cookies at arrival were a godsend after a long travel day). I appreciated the robe, charging station at the desk, and that the heat worked well. For a 4-star, however, tougher experience. The $25 amenity fee is for a the glass of wine and afternoon cookies, bike rental which I bet few ever use, a single water bottle that you then can fill up with a tap downstairs, and a gym with broken equipment, a single dirty mat, and a weight set missing half its weights (including 20s and 25s). For that, you shouldn't list out that there are amenities, just include that in the total cost. The carpet feels dirty and is just right on top of a hard floor. The tub was in really poor shape. Multiple plugs didn't work or were pushed into the wall. The bed was sagging into a U and my bedding smelled of cigarette smoke. And I wish they were more clear on whether the blankets you get instead of a top sheet are laundered after ever guest. I also feel like the physical key with just a deadbolt is not the safest setup for a hotel room.. As I was leaving, the historic elevators had gone down, too - very grateful that was after my stay, but I feel stressed on behalf of the current guests and housekeeping staff. Great location and good vibes for 2-stars (I do want to give one more shout out to a great staff), but really not great for anything beyond that.

The location is perfect! Bed was very comfortable and the view was outstanding. It’s probably time to start refreshing the bathrooms but they are acceptable.
