Choose another hotel

I stay in Boston frequently. This was my first, and last, stay at this hotel. First, the city noises are unbearable. I suspect it's the proximity to the ER entrance of Tufts. Every night it was sirens, screaming, trucks backing up with the beep-beep-beep. The hotel provides sound machines in the room. If you're unlucky enough to say here, use it.
Also, the hotel is old. Faster to take the stairs than the elevators. Shower heads mounted for someone that's 5' tall. A terrible (small) fitness center. A crappy neighborhood. A soft, droopy mattress that jacked up my back. Just avoid this place if you can.

A great launch point for visiting Boston

The location alone is enough to make me stay here again, next door to Orange line and a 2 stop bus ride to South Station (Amtrak). Room was quiet, comfortable, clean and spacious. Gym was well equipped and you have access to YMCA next door.
Staff were kind and bartenders were friendly. Drink prices were fair for downtown.
It's a small thing, but they have this cool stairway that wraps around the elevator so you never need to use it if you don't mind a few steps every day. (Building is a converted school--read the plaque in the stairs.)
Does not have a guest laundry but the laundromat a block away served my needs.

The check-in was somewhat confusing. It was not clear whether we paid the full price at first or a deposit that would be returned, and we were not given a receipt.
We could have asked about details and / or for the receipt; however, at a USD 400 the night 4-star hotel you would expect that they would explain this by themselves and ask if you want a receipt.
