Welcome home to a homey mountain stay
Looking for a last-minute stay in Blowing Rock for a Friday night and had stayed at Cliff Dwellers years ago. As others have mentioned, it's not a new hotel, but the rooms have been updated, and their website made it easy to see how each room is furnished and located.
Because it's actually on a cliff, the office and some of the rooms are on the top floor, with parking for the rooms right at the door, which is a plus, as is the fact that the room had a very roomy and delightful balcony facing the Chetola Lake and the outlet mall, as well as the mountains in the background. Great place to chill as the sun set. Two chairs and a table allow for comfortable accommodation outside.
The first floor rooms also have parking on the same level as the rooms. The second floor rooms require a 1-story flight of stairs.
Room 303 had nice furnishings, a toilet with bath/shower and an additional adjacent room with just a sink, along with a small closet. Bath towels, hand towels and face washcloths were high quality and substantial. There's also a 4-cup Mr. Coffee drip maker with prepackaged regular and decaf coffee.
There were two nice rockers, a dresser, table, king-sized bed and night stands, with power strips (no USB except for the ones in the back of the big flat-screen TV. As others have noted, the TV is Roku. Good wifi.
One of the things that makes Cliff Dwellers so neat is that they're not part of a carbon-copy chain (very few chains of any kind are in Blowing Rock). The front desk happened not to be manned when I checked in about 330pm (30 minutes early), but there was a note on the door to call Dustin if there was no one in the office. Dustin was a great host, responded immediately and made me feel right at home. Same thing at check-out, very informal and friendly.
It took a minute to get the hot water coming, but when it did, it was plentiful, good pressure and very hot. There are also hotel-sized shampoos and conditioners. They don't provide a breakfast. Since we had coffee in the room, we didn't take advantage of coffee in the front desk area. There are a number of nearby breakfast places, the best of which (IMHO) is The Social on Main, open 7a-2p with breakfast until 11am (closed Wednesdays)
I would have thought it might be noisy, since it overlooks a multiple-lane highway, but the only time I heard road noise was when a very loud motorcycle passed early the morning of checkout. I never heard a peep from any of the other guests, and there was no vacancy, which attests to the way hotels used to be built. As some have mentioned, there are a couple of squeaky floor spots, but that wasn't a problem (at least for those of us on the top floor).
It's a great value, good location, wonderful, homey welcoming staff and attractive pricing with no surprises. I'll definitely put this hotel on my short list next time I overnight in Blowing Rock.

Staying in this charming inn was like being transported into yesteryear. Friendly and thoughtful staff and beautiful views!

We arrive around 10pm that evening and the office was closed. Our key and paperwork was in the mailbox by the door. After signing and putting it back in the mailbox we had to find our room in the dark. It was very dark out and we had never been there before. Luckly we were able to find our room. The wi-fi didn't work know matter what we tried.

Great property,great views,clean and quiet,did not offer breakfast,need to update Expedia listing that does offer breakfast.

Parking was super easy and room extremely clean bed was very comfortable and the view was amazing would definitely stay here again
