Good Choice for the Area

Visiting Arcata recently with my college- attending child, I needed a place to stay. Arcata is a small city, and there are not many lodging options, and I wasn’t looking for anything elaborate, anyway. A hotel that provided what I needed for a fair price is the Comfort Inn Arcata.
This hotel is small, with 49 rooms, and it’s situated close to highway 101, just minutes from the airport and Cal-Poly Humboldt. The hotel offers free breakfast and it does manage to pull off a few amenities you wouldn’t expect for a hotel of this small size, like an indoor pool and fitness room. If you get hungry or thirsty, they have drinks and snacks for sale onsite. There is no restaurant or bar, but the location is a short walk away from a handful of eateries. Parking is free, which is a plus.
With the rooms, they cover the basics, which is what I expect in this size hotel. Heat and AC are supplied by a unit on the outside wall, directly underneath the window. It can take time to get the temperature just right, but the unit worked without any issues.
I like getting a free breakfast, but I should point out that what you get served here is just the basics, like sausage, cereal, yogurt, waffles, eggs, etc. The eggs are of the powdered variety, the sausage seemed like it was leftover from the day before, and the muffins are pre- packaged and not baked fresh. Still, it’s free and again, considering the price of the hotel, it’s about what I expected.
Arcata is known as the home of Cal- Poly University more than anything else, and people who come here usually do so for something related to the school. The lodging options in Arcata are limited, and the Comfort Inn is as good as any. It’s not a fancy place of lodging, but it doesn’t try to be. It’s a clean, basic place to sleep and relax, and it delivers on its modest promises.

The room was very clean and so was the pool area. The reservation desk gal was very helpful and actually made our stay more pleasant because of her sweet personality. Overall, we will stop there again next time we’re in the area.

Clean rooms, comfy beds. Nice and helpful staff. Lots of homeless in the area of the hotel. Which made you a little leary. Hotel does have a fenced and gated parking lot. Which help with the uneasiness a little.

I enjoyed my stay at the Comfort Inn in Arcata. The room was well-designed and nicely lit. There was plenty of free parking and the hotel was close to the freeway and to lovely stretches of forested areas, but not so close that I was constantly aware of traffic. The bathroom was well appointed, and the towels didn't have that threadbare feel that some hotels have. I would definitely stay here again.

The property and staff are very good but the free breakfast is terrible - eggs, sausage, potatoes all bad, toast OK but with frozen butter, packaged muffins.
The property would be a little cleaner if they put a trash can outside for cigarette butts.
