Cat Friendly and Tasty Hot Breakfast Options

I wanted to note some things I didn't see in other reviews about the hot food options and how pet friendly the rooms were at Hampton Inn.
My mom and I stayed 11 weeknights over the course of a month (July-August 2026) in their double queen rooms. My 13-year-old cat was undergoing veterinary treatment at Iowa State University. It was a short, easy drive to get from the hotel to ISU. The rooms were pet friendly (with a pet fee). I did stuff pillows between the bed and wall near the floor to fill the gaps and then my cat could not get under the bed. The window sill provided a nice spot for my cat to watch traffic and was his favorite part of the room. We stayed on the 4th floor (asked for "a quiet room on the 4th floor") and only heard our neighbors maybe 1x. Traffic noise was minimal (only a very big semi or motorcycle could be heard since they were louder than everything else.)
I worked remotely when I was there. The desk and lamp worked well for my needs. The internet was fast and supported me working while my mom streamed videos on social media. The free wifi was enough for us both without having to pay the extra $4.95 daily fee for premium internet. It was not an issue, but be aware the wifi does cut off after checkout.
I'm a picky eater (who tries to do lower carb, so continental is not usually ideal for me) and found the breakfast offering was a good variety. I especially liked the rotating hot options every day. They did have biscuits one morning instead of the potatoes later in the breakfast serving period when I stopped back (I'm guessing they ran out of potatoes, but I really liked the biscuits!) The hot option included redskin potatoes each morning we were there. The meat option rotated between Chicken Sausage Patties, Hardwood-Smoked Bacon, Maple Smoked Sausage, and Pork Sausage Patties. The egg option rotated between Western-Style Omelets, Scrambled Eggs, Cheese Omelets, and egg White Fritatta.
We researched hotels and picked this one before the pool maintenance started on July 22. We did get to use it before then. It was basic but clean. Very warm pool room air temperature, which helped getting out not feel so cold and made the towels feel toasty. The front desk did say we could go swim at the Home2Suites nearby (also owned by Hilton) to swim and did take advantage of that. The pool room and pool were very similar to the Hampton Inn's setup (at least pre-maintenance).
Rooms were clean, staff was kind (and remembered us and our cat between stays), there was always room to sit in the dining area for breakfast, and there was always available free parking. Two elevators meant the wait was always short for an elevator. Gas stations across the road and many nearby restaurants and shopping. Would return and recommend to others.

Mold in the shower

As soon as I walked into the room I noticed an odor. I should have asked to change rooms immediately but I had Lysol and thought that would help. When I opened the shower I realized what the odor was. There was mold around the shower grab bar. That is something that should have been noticed by housekeeping. The only reason I am giving two stars is because everyone was very friendly. I would have rated my experience a one if cleanliness was my only consideration.

Room was clean as spacious. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was kept stocked.
