I was very surprised by the amenities provided by Huttopia. I was not expecting on site food or even a small “essentials” and more shop

Great Concept, Terrible Front Desk Experience

I would have loved to write a glowing five-star review of Huttopia White Mountains because we genuinely had an amazing family weekend staying in one of the train cars. We shared so many great moments together grilling on the BBQ while our daughters played with the other kids, then ending the evenings around our campfire making s'mores and taking turns telling spooky stories under the stars. It was exactly the kind of family getaway we were hoping for, and those are memories we'll cherish for a long time.
Unfortunately, the biggest issue wasn't the campground itself—it was the way it was managed, or more specifically, the attitude of one front desk employee.
When we checked into our train car, we immediately noticed that one of the air conditioning units wasn't working. We went to the front desk, where the employee casually told us she already knew about it and that one AC unit would be enough because she thought it was sufficient. That's simply not an acceptable response. Whether one AC is enough is not her decision to make. As the paying customer, I expect to be informed of the situation and allowed to decide whether I'm comfortable with it, not have that decision made for me.
Thankfully, the General Manager, Thibault, handled the situation with professionalism, empathy, and common sense. He listened, understood the issue, and treated us the way guests should be treated. That's exactly the level of customer service you expect from someone working in hospitality.
Unfortunately, our problems didn't stop there. We also had no hot water because the water heater was broken. We discovered it after returning from our excursion the next day. We called the front desk, maintenance came quickly, and we were told the water heater had been repaired. However, that evening we realized it still wasn't working. By then it was too late for maintenance to come back, which meant none of us could take a proper hot shower for the rest of our stay.
When we checked out the following morning, I had the misfortune of dealing with the same front desk employee again. She greeted me with a cold look, barely spoke to me, and when I explained that the hot water issue had never actually been fixed, her entire response was, "Okay, it's noted." No apology. No concern. No attempt to make things right.
Considering we paid for accommodations that included working air conditioning and hot water, and ultimately couldn't even take a hot shower all weekend, I naturally asked how they could make it right. I left my phone number so the General Manager could call me back. I'm still waiting. Given my previous interaction with that employee, I can't help but wonder whether my message ever made it to him.
It's genuinely disappointing because we absolutely loved the location, the concept, and almost everyone else we met during our stay. Huttopia has created a wonderful place for families, and we made memories we'll never forget. Sadly, I can't confidently recommend it while guests risk being treated with indifference, or even hostility, simply for reporting legitimate issues. A beautiful campground deserves customer service that matches the experience it promises.

Okay trip, amenities were great, customer service was poor. Accommodations were as shown

Just spent 4 days/3 nights at Huttopia. Overall the trip itself I would rank as okay. The service itself, while everyone very friendly, was just overall slow or unresponsive.
Prior to our trip, around 35 days/ I tried to edit our booking as we decided to to not bring the dogs and wanted reimbursement for that. I called twice- no response, and emailed once- never got a response.
Then, our six year old was hospitalized for a week end of May and came home with a PICC line. I tried canceling, again- tried calling- no answer then through email and did get a response back within a day or two. I was told I was 28 days out instead of 30 day cancellation. I offered to provide doctors and hospitalizations notes, and all but begged that the price of the stay would help with med costs, and I didn’t particularly want my just sick kiddo out in the woods, but no dice. They offered to move it out to September post busy season, but had little interest in that. So, admittedly this did not set off the trip in a great direction, but we went as the almost $1k we spent would have been lit on fire.
We stayed in a Trappeur tent by the brook as a family of 5. The dogs did not come with us (again- even though we paid and never got a response back so was charged), and I’m thankful for that because with our two larger dogs it would have been super super cramped. They did have dog bags in the brown extra storage but I didn’t look/open them.
The tent was nice, we got a two second run down at check in so it was a lot of figuring stuff out on our own. The bathroom was super tight- but to be expected and you’re in a tent. Hot water lasted about 3-5 minutes for shower. Our location was great, the kids were in the stream everyday.
We had our own fire pit and grill. The kitchenette has the absolute basics and I could have sworn each room came with a cooking stove, but we ended up using the side burner because I couldn’t see any despite looking. Kitchenette has a small sink and dishes for 6 people. It had a can opener, spatula, ladle, and tongs. Also had mixing bowls, pots and pans. It has cleaner spray, dish detergent and a kitchen towel. There was a mini-fridge and they also had matches. Easy peasy there. Things we brought that helped: trash bags, tin foil, paper towels, dish towels.
Firewood quality and bundle size great for price of $10 a bundle.
Good size tent, fit 5 of us in 3 beds (2 per queen and 1 kiddo on bunk bed full above). Had a drying wrack we found under the bed when packing to leave, would have been helpful to know prior. Also found underwear from a prior tenant which was off putting. Room guide they give you is pretty lack luster- gave rules for bears, didn’t really give much for recommendations for local stuff, one page told you a recipe for fire bananas and marshmallow.
On site we really liked how much there was to do. Heated pool, game room with football, table tennis, books, yard jenga, a tv. Horseshoes, a playground, volleyball all also available.
The lake is cute and we fished and canoed on it, but we saw many lounging on the beach and swimming when the weather was nice. There’s also board games and puzzles in the registration tent to use.
Conway is about 15-20 minutes away- has lots of shopping and eating. For attractions there’s a few trains- but be advised those are very expensive. There is The Living Shores aquarium and Storyland. Storyland was closed due to rain for us but the Living shores was a good morning activity. We didn’t get to do too much of the local hikes as it rained throughout our trip, but having been to some prior, you can’t go wrong. The other side of the Kangamancus has more stuff for us I feel like, but that’s a good hour away.
Safety wise, You get a key to a padlock to hold both tent zippers together. You are right on top of neighbors and can hear everything, for us with the kids it wasn’t too big of a deal as we went to bed early, woke up early. There is a number for emergencies I guess where you can also report noise issues- but we didn’t need thankfully. There is no oversight/lifeguard at the lake FYI, so something to be advised if letting kids galavant. For my kiddo who still was feeling under the weather- there was a walk-in clinic about 15 minutes away from the campground which we thankfully did not need, but was very thankful it was there.
One of my kiddos is handicapped and we were able to get around okay no issues; just slower in some spots as they could be steep- but we avoided going that way for the most part. Cars can be a tiny jaunt away, minute or two walk, normally not a problem but was awful in the downpour, so bring umbrellas or ponchos just for that alone.
As far as food and drink this part was frustrating. I guess maybe we were off season by 2 days? We didn’t realize food was only Friday/Saturday/Sunday but luckily we brought some of our own. Friday morning, the signage was wrong- they said they were open for the morning 7-1p. By 11a they were closed- so there went my lunch plans. The registration ‘lobby’/tent has a little store with basics- average upcost camp costs. They had a small section of beer/cider/wine as well.
Overall okay stay, the customer service across the board was frustrating/disappointing(and again- those I interacted with in person were kind) so definitely something that skews my recommendation of the place. The amenities are absolutely great with the accommodations of the Trappeur tent being okay. Wasn’t good, wasn’t bad. Location is in the middle of nowhere, so as long as okay driving around, was fine too. Overall, an alright trip.

Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review of your experience with us. We're glad you enjoyed some aspects of your stay, such as the Trappeur tent, the on-site amenities like the pool and game room, and the natural surroundings. It’s great to hear that your children made use of the stream and that you were able to enjoy activities like fishing and canoeing. Your helpful notes on what to bring will surely be of great value to future guests.
That being said, we're very sorry to hear about the issues you encountered, particularly regarding your attempts to modify or cancel your booking during what must have been a challenging time for your family. Don't go with high expectations

We were very excited about this and left a little disappointed. Check in is at 4, we arrived about 20 mins early as did several families. All of us had to wait outside a locked reception until 4:05. As well as an already checked in guest just waiting to rent a canoe. Upon getting to site from pictures I thought the private waterfront would be swimmable but it was weedy and mucky and nothing you'd want to walk into. The site had old clothes from previous guests on the lawn and we had to spend 30 minutes digging the fire pit out that was full to the top of old wet charcoal, rocks, and random metal pieces

Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your stay. We are in low season currently and so our reception does not open until 4pm. However, we have a phone number posted on the door for guests to call and we would head down to help out.
We are very sorry that the outside of your tent was not up to standard. We aim to maintain a clean outside for our guests, and it appears we missed a couple items at your tent. We will let our team know your feedback and work to improve.
Thank you again for your review.
Best,

My husband and I had an overall good time. We would go again but there were a couple customer services things that could be improved upon. Firstly my husband and I were planning on a campfire for dinner and smores. We bought all the stuff and then when we got there we were informed that there was a burn ban in effect that no one had let us know about. We totally understand about keeping the forest safe however we felt like they should have emailed guests prior because not everyone is local and would have known about the burn ban like us out-of-towners. Another issue I had was with checking in. We got an email prior to checking in that reception desk closes at 9 o'clock. We raced over to try to make it before reception closed because it was going to be our first night staying there and we had some questions about how everything worked. We pulled up about 30 minutes early but reception people had already left even though it was not yet 9 o'clock. We had very little information about how to get firewood with the store being closed and we needed the firewood to stay warm as the night got down to 34°. Luckily we ran into another camper who helped fill us in but we were pretty stressed. Additionally there is no information about the water on-site. A tent we stayed in had a sink and water cups but no information on if the tap water was safe to drink and of course no reception to call and ask. Smallish issues but first time experience could have been better.
