A great holiday, as always :-)

A bit late with my review as we stayed here again during May 2026 during which we celebrated our anniversary. I have lost count how many times we have stayed at this hotel, and we're staying again in October 2026.
Reception Staff : Always happy to see us, & are very welcoming and very helpful. Rocio, in reservations, moved on to pastures new last year so we wish her well. Angie is still on the team, always with a smile :-) New faces have welcomed us over the past year, sorry names allude me. The team try their utmost to accommodate room requests, it can't be guaranteed so please keep that in mind.
Restaurant & Daniel Bar : Familiar faces with warm welcomes. We’ll miss Camino dearly on her retirement. A big shout out to some of the wonderful team : Juan-Carlos, Juan, Stephano, David, Yolanta (who does the most amazing Baraquito's at Daniels Bar) Alfredo, Belen, Annie, El-Hassan and the joyful Yobana at breakfast time (she does the best fresh fried eggs & omlettes)
Cleaning staff work hard so don't really have time to stop and chat, but will always be grateful or a smile and quick Hola.
Rooms : We have been happy with our room allocations. The rooms have a free mini fridge which is perfect for keeping snacks and drinks in. Complimentary water bottles are in the fridge on your arrival. The back of the hotel may be classed as quiet in the hotel grounds but if you’re a light sleeper, earplugs will be a quick and easy solution for the noise drifting from Veronica's (outside of the hotels control so no point complaining).
Food : If you stay more than a week, then of course the food is repetitive, that happens in all hotels wherever you go, so don't moan! Breakfast - can't fault it, lots to choose from. I did have a little giggle to myself with hot carrots & sprouts on offer at breakfast in recent times. Obviously people eat them otherwise they'd take them off the breakfast menu. Evening Meal - I'm a fussy eater but always find something. Desserts are to die for, so watch your waistline ;-) Don't forget, you pay for evening drinks in the restaurant but very reasonably priced.
Pool area : The lifeguard, Paco, is also another long serving member of staff :-) Shallow end is still relatively deep so watch over your younger ones. Kids shouldn't be left unattended anyway. There is a shallow kids pool towards the rear of the sun terrace.
Rooftop Pool : Plunge pool rather than for swimming. Lifeguard unlocks the door at 10am & its locked at 6pm daily. There is a vending machine but no toilets! Access is gained via your room card if you are in premium rooms only. Sunbeds and parasols are already laid out, always leave them as you found them if you move them around - its just etiquette really.
Daytime Entertainment : Nice to have regular things happening during the day if you're one to join in. Entertainment team don't hassle if you just want to veg in the sun.
Evening Entertainment : I cannot comment as we're usually out and about at that time but it's based on a weekly rota, looks varied and seems to be a good lineup.
Location : 4 out of 5 as some people may find the walk up hill back to the hotel from the beach a little difficult. However, the hotel is placed well for Siam Mall and Siam Park, being roughly a 10 min walk.
Yes, the hotel is near to a brothel, which I think may have now closed down (?) and No, it's never been a problem to walk passed with my family.
All in all, it's a lovely hotel for the star rating and very reasonably priced. It's home from home for us and will always look forward to returning.

Overall dirty tired and disappointing

Reception staff and other staff are lovely and helpful. However the hotel itself is in a poor state unclean needs maintenance and floor 1 rooms are terrible. Old fashioned dark dirty and unsafe doors don’t lock. We were put in 118 and 117 the doors to room and balcony did not lock it was dark and dirty we got a new room which was far better but lost a day as had to check out of first room and then wait till late to get our new room.
Pool area is small and very dirty
Food hall very dirty and there are cockroaches food was not fit for consumption we ate out very sad as we booked this based on good reviews on booking.com this was by far a poor standard for a 3 star hotel

Honestly, for what you pay and for 3 star you can’t fault it really. Be wary of very negative reviews

First time staying in Oro Negro, and for what we paid, I really can’t fault the place. Few mixed reviews but I think people really need to manage expectations. Seems some people expect champagne on a lemonade budget.
The staff have been great all through our stay. Very friendly, always say hello to you, happy to help and clearly work very hard. This extends from reception to cleaning to restaurant to the entertainment team.
Check in straightforward as was checkout (which is 12pm).
Our room was basic but functional and clean. Had air con which was essential in mid July.
Rooms cleaned every day, new bed sheets and towels every other day.
Pool area is clean and well maintained. Sunbeds unlocked at 9am on the solarium, 10am by the pool. No mad scramble but would recommend getting down by 9ish if you want a good location and umbrella. We had no issues all week but were here the week before schools break up for summer.
Entertainment team had something on everyday during the day and evening so if you wanted a chill one all week, you’d have plenty going on here. Water polo, aqua bikes, aqua gym, darts, and evening entertainment of singers, acrobats, karaoke, bit of everything.
Restaurant had plenty of choice during breakfast and dinner. Yes, it can be a bit repetitive if you’re here a week or longer but this isn’t isolated to this hotel, that’s pretty much any half board or all inclusive hotel you go to within this price range. But there was always enough choice to mix things up.
Freshly cooked omelettes in the morning in front of you, same with steaks and chicken and pork in the evenings.
Location wise, 10 mins walk to Las Americas beachfront and 15 mins to Golden Mile so easy enough to walk around. Very slightly uphill when walking back but nothing too heavy. Couple of supermarkets and restaurants and bars even closer within 5 mins walk if you didn’t want to go far either.
We booked through TUI, return flights from UK, transfers, half board for a week for about £650 each mid July. Really can’t fault our stay for the price.
Mix of families, couples and groups of friends staying by the looks of it, mixed aged group but really chill vibes.
So be wary of negative reviews of people saying this is the “worst stay ever” and all that. It’s a solid 3* hotel and would recommend.

Excellent

My family and I had a fantastic stay at Catalonia Oro Negro in Tenerife. The hotel was comfortable and in a great location, just a short walk from the beach, shops, bars, and restaurants. The staff were incredibly friendly and always happy to help, making us feel welcome throughout our stay.
Our room was spacious and had a great balcony overlooking the pool. The pool area was lovely, with plenty of sunbeds and a relaxed atmosphere. There was entertainment throughout the day, every day, with activities suitable for both adults and children.
We stayed on a half-board basis, which included breakfast and dinner. The food was really good, especially the breakfast, which offered plenty of choice. The dinner buffet was enjoyable, although I personally felt it could have offered a wider selection of dishes.
The hotel offers excellent value for money and is a great choice for couples, families, or groups of friends looking to enjoy Tenerife. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the island.
