Lunch

Lovely restaurant with in and outdoor seating in a beautiful setting.
There is no menu nor price list and staff speak limited English.
We ordered tuna and chicken, which were both tasty. Large portions.
Shame dirty plates on the terrace didn't seem to get cleared.
I enjoyed spending a relaxong afternoon in their garden with beautiful view of the volcano.

Basic accommodation and food in a unique setting

Stunning location well worth the visit. Website definitely overpromises food and room quality. Funcos are a great experience with the rooftop hammocks unique and relaxing. Room itself is pretty spartan. Though superior food is promised, the reality offers very limited choices of very simple fare. This isn't surprising given the lodges location but website would do better to not promise more than they can deliver.

Phoenix "on" the ashes

After the devastating volcanic eruption in 2014/2015, nothing was the same here in the caldera. New lava piles up metres high here and buried many houses below.
Casa Marisa was newly built after the volcanic eruption. And they've done a really great job here.
The rooms: The round houses are modelled on the old architectural style and are pleasantly cool thanks to the use of highly porous lava as exterior wall cladding. Bath small and one should pay attention to a frugal water consumption. The beds are comfortable, but it doesn't come along luxuriously now. The best is the roof terrace with hammocks...to hang out.
The restaurant: We were there in the absolute low season and the choice was quite limited (2 dishes). But the quality was outstandingly good. I really didn't expect it in this place.
The staff: absolutely friendly, nice and always helpful.

Average accommodation and food offering

Casa Marisa has a monopoly in Cha das Caldeiras as there is little other accommodation available in the area. First impressions of the homestead are reasonably good, traditional buildings on the periphery of a central dining area with views to a pleasant, well maintained garden. As a group of twenty, we were allocated a variety of basic rooms, some of which were extremely hot but sadly water for showering was cold. Electricity availability was volatile and each morning from 5am, power was not available in my room. The owner is extremely confident, at times indifferent and oversells but sadly does not deliver. He spoke about the exquisite cooking by his partner and that we were in for a treat. Over the four day period, dinner consisted of either tuna or as the staff described it ‘cow’, both unappetising. Breakfast was extremely poor, suggesting little or no effort was put into varying the boring menu. I appreciate that the availability of food is challenging given the homesteads location and we were certainly not expecting a gourmet offering but expected greater effort to provide variation in a simple, tasty & healthy menu.

Depressive

The standard room (night with 10 to 120): the toilet was running a wire of warm water and in the morning there was no. The Turkish towel was hard and mt washed. The mosaic room had a ceiling light, 2 small beds c linen and just a fleet blanket each. I slept dressed.
