Much more than I had expected

We stayed in the small house that belongs to the inn. It was simple but very cozy and neat. The beds were comfortable with good mattresses, sheets and towels were soft and clean. What I liked the most was the atmosphere of the place: quiet, peaceful and receptive. Although the hosts don't speak English, they are very helpful and do their best to make you feel at home.

Simple but well cared for, and in a great location

As far as rural accomodations go, this pousada is probably the best the area has to offer. The location is very handy -- about equidistant from two entrances to the Serra da Canastra National Park -- and although, as expected, the roads are bad (but if you're there, you're probably in a 4x4 anyway), it is a very pleasant ride early in the morning. There are plenty of birds, from toco toucans, seriemas and jays to parakeets, and the views and landscape are outstanding. The hotel is simple enough, with chalets for 1-4 guests plus a self-catering house in the premises, spread around the hub (outdoor kitchen, bar, dining room and TV, all in an open concept, open-air central construction), laid out in a very pleasant garden and just a short walk to the São Francisco River.
The chalets are basic -- bed (comfortable mattress), storage, a small bathroom with shower, WC and sink -- but very clean. Electricity arrived at the place just 3 years ago, but that makes a lot of difference, as there is now power 24/7 (it didn't fail on us once, although power shortages in remote locations are usually frequent), a decent internet connection, one satellite TV with some channels in the dining room area, cell phone signal and... cold beer at the end of long, dusty days. We had breakfast and dinner at the pousada every day. Food was good, typical fare from Minas Gerais, no frills but very tasty, laid out buffet-style. There is a small swimming pool with deck chairs in the garden, but I never tried it (I was out during the day, and nights in May can be quite cold by Brazilian standards).
The owner, Eduardo, is always on the premises, puttering around taking care of things, closely followed by his two dogs. He doesn't speak English, but universal sign language and Google Translate may get you what you want.
I stayed there for 6 nights for a lengthy visit to the national park and a lot of birdwatching. It was well worth it.

LUGAR DE PAZ E TRANQUILIDADE

Estancia Macaubas , um lugar especial, com paisagem especial , Rio São Francisco abençoa o lugar, tudo bem simples de muito bom gosto, café colonial preparado com muito carinho pelo Eduardo, que tornou a hospedagem num cantinho do nosso lar, espero em breve retornar.

O melhor na Serra da Canastra

A mais agradável das surpresas e combinações: paisagens maravilhosas, cachoeiras deslumbrantes, hospedagem carinhosa, aconchegante, caseira e amiga.
O apoio e curadoria do dono, Eduardo Mansur, fazem toda a diferença. Conhecer uma das maravilhas do Brasil, apoiado pelo conhecimento e paixão de quem realmente sabe tudo do local faz mais que a diferença. Recomendo e muito!

SOSSEGO NO MEIO DO MATO

A pousada é rústica, considere isso para dimensionar a nota. O lugar é super bem cuidado, coladinho no rio São Francisco, afastado da cidade. Comidinha caseira saborosa, céu estrelado, gramado grande, os bichos à solta, esse é o cenário. Cama confortável mas dá para melhorar. TV no quarto, chuveiro quentinho. O box é fechado com cortina, o rodo às vezes é necessário. Donos super atenciosos. Roupas de cama e banho limpas e cheirosas. Para passeio, antes de pagar por qualquer um, sugiro a Cachoeira da Chinela, carros normais acessam. E todo o resto é tranquilidade. Se precisa de um agito, recomendo procurar outro lugar. Eu espero poder voltar.
