Dirty and very noisy
Positive was the reception staff being friendly however, otherwise a disappointing stay.

Very disappointing management and unfair treatment
I was staying there and also doing free accommodation work, cleaning the kitchen during night shifts and helping keep the hostel clean. During my stay, there was a group of male guests who constantly made jokes, insults, inappropriate comments, and behaved in a very disrespectful way toward me. Some of these situations felt clearly homophobic and targeted.
When I responded to defend myself and tried not to let them disrespect me, they went to reception and falsely claimed that I was harassing them. Instead of listening fairly to both sides or trying to understand the real situation, management immediately blamed me without giving me a real chance to explain.
The manager was extremely rude, cold, and unprofessional. I felt judged, unsupported, and treated unfairly from the beginning. After working for the hostel and helping every night, I expected at least basic respect, but instead I was simply forced to leave.
The atmosphere became toxic very quickly, and I felt that staff handled the conflict badly and without fairness. I left feeling humiliated and disappointed.
The location is central, but management and the way they handle guests is very poor. I would especially warn LGBTQ+ travelers to be careful, because I did not feel protected or respected there.
I would not return and I would not recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a safe and respectful environment.

One of the most unsafe and unhygienic hostels we have ever encountered – especially concerning for young female travelle
They were assigned a basement dorm with no proper fire escape, blocked windows, poor ventilation and a general setup that would be dangerous in any emergency. The listing does not mention basement rooms or these risks.
Hygiene was shockingly bad: the basement smelled of spoiled food, cigarettes and marijuana. Inside the room they found dirty sheets placed over clean ones, spiderwebs, trash, and dry marijuana and lighters inside the dorm beds. One bunk bed was so unstable it nearly collapsed. This created a genuinely unsafe and frightening atmosphere.
The kitchen was equally unacceptable, with moldy food in the fridge, filthy equipment, and even a pan left overheating to the point of almost catching fire. Smoking and drug use were happening openly inside the hostel without staff intervention.
When the girls reported their concerns, the staff member became rude and dismissive, saying he was “sick of this.” The manager failed to show up at the agreed meeting time the next day and never provided the promised update.
These two young travellers did not feel safe for a single minute inside this hostel. They left immediately, shaken and disappointed that such conditions are allowed to be advertised and sold.
Europa Melbourne is unsafe, unhygienic, misrepresented online, and extremely poorly managed.
Young travellers should avoid this place entirely.
