A must when visiting Tasmania.

This is a must when visiting Tasmania...the walks are beautiful, air so fresh you wish you could bottle it.
Unfortunately it is getting tired, a once fantastic hotel is now in need of some serious money being spent on it.
It snowed when we were there which was fantastic but if we had not made friends with Lia one of the bar staff we would have frozen to death :)
The food is sad but i guess that is not why you are there.
The rooms are old but still ok, gas fire is warm and inviting and no TV's ! ! well done.
Go but do not have high expectations.

Old and tired property

The lodge is really well located within the park - 10/10
The lodge itself needs a major refit … have been going there for the last 10 years and it is now very run down, the main lodge looks tired and old. The rooms are okay have a 1970’s vibe to them .. the carpets are vey old need urgent looking at. Bathrooms are okay .. clean and spacious, but again old. The fireplace place in the room with the never ending supply of firewood was great, but please check for smoke leaks. Overall lodge and room facilities would be a 5/10 and this is being generous
The food .. well the less said the better .. massive waits and very very average food. You do not expect gourmet meals, but you do expect a warm pizza, or a fresh salad. Breakfast was okay .. and perhaps would help take the rating to 4/10
The spa - I would give. 101/10 .. amazing facility and location and brilliant service.

Outdated advertising - no happy hour

We were staying nearby and dropped in for a drink and dinner after a hard days walking as we had heard the bar had a great vibe and ‘happy hour’ drinks from 4-5pm which was also advertised on their website. Upon arrival we were told that there was no happy hour and despite stating same on the website we were told it was outdated. Bar staff suggested ‘ we’ take it up with the office in the morning. Nevertheless we purchased a couple of drinks asked for a couple of Coronas but they were sold out. We had a beer and left straight after. No complaints against the staff but they clearly had no clue and there was no acknowledgement for the outdated advertising.

Shocking customer service

Location is great. But the staff and service are terrible. The man who checked us in was so disinterested and rude. No pleasantries; not even a ‘hi how are you’.
Staff in the bistro were rude, throwing plates down on the table.
Overall everyone was unhelpful, rude and clearly did not want to be there.

Exotic and relaxing stay

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. The staff is competent and efficient. Check-in and check-out procedures were quickly completed. We tested the hotel’s two restaurants: the gourmet Highland (reservation recommended) and the bistro, a family atmosphere. Accommodations are located in nature, which gives privacy and allows you to get up close and personal with wallabies and wombats who walk around at night. Our cottage (Pencil cabin) was comfortable with a nice view. However, it deserves some refreshing touches in view of the price of the night. Several walks possible within this structure via very well marked trails. You can also book guided tours within Cradle Mountain National Park. We opted for a 3 hour tour, the Discovery tour we did with Ken, an excellent experienced guide who taught us a lot. We were just two guests that afternoon, probably due to rainy weather but really had a great time with her. This stay allowed us to admire wildlife up close, discover beautiful landscapes and realize a digital diet (no TV or wifi in the accommodations. Wifi is available at reception and in restaurants. Relaxing and exotic stay that still has a price.
