Great, modern as well as traditional place to stay, certainly for a visit to Hockenheim racing
For us Mutterstadt was ideal to travel to Hockenheim for the races we wanted to attend.

Families unwelcome, service terrible
We had a reservation for two people and a baby for my birthday.
We arrived and there were also three tables available in the cafe (including a small table for 3 people) and two larger ones for 4/5 people.
The employee told us to sit down at a table of eight in the next room. There was no one else in this room and we felt deported and unwelcome. We asked several times why we can't sit down at one of the three free tables in the cafe, since there are only two of us (plus baby). She kept saying these were reserved. That we also had a reservation apparently didn't interest her, or she thought you could do that with a young family.
When we asked one last time if we could not get to the very small table in the cafe, she became really outrageous and moaned loudly with us. She never apologized once, but blamed us for so many people making reservations.
We left the café again and will not come here again.

Very disappointing..
After a lot of back and forth, we were allowed to sit at another "reserved" table. I then waited for over half an hour until the drinks were taken and breakfast was ordered.
3 cappuccinos... 2 arrived. After an hour, breakfast arrived too. The 3rd cappuccino was still missing. After asking several times, it finally arrived...
The conditions are totally overwhelmed and they can't cope at all with what they are doing.
The worst thing is that we were very polite and friendly, but the waiter was very snappy and annoyed.
We were really very disappointed.

Excellent value and cake selection!
Quite a lot of local people dropped by to buy cakes for takeaway - a good sign, too.

Excellent value, lovely, friendly service.
The very old and beautiful appearance of the building from the outside contrasts with the modernity and comfort of the interior. The bedroom room was spacious and nicely furnished. The small town feel to the building was charming, with the view outside of a neighbour’s fruit garden.
When we checked in, it was at the café counter, and nobody could speak English. There was a good natured and funny exchange as different staff were consulted to assist in putting together an intelligible sentence. Our German is so bad we were not of much help, but in the end through a combination of hand signs and nods and smiles, we were good to go.
This is not the Hilton, but the comfort and quality of the room made this the bargain of the year. The staff were utterly charming, and though unused to dealing with tourists (Mutterstadt itself is not a tourist destination) their good humour and helpfulness made us feel very welcome.
Breakfast in the café was an experience. We sat outside in early summer sunshine where we observed many local people dropping in to eat – always a good sign. We ate heartily from the great menu. Their cakes and breads are dangerously tasty.
This is a hidden gem. I would 100% recommend it as a place to stay and eat.
