Very well located hotel to rattle off East Frisia by bike.
The hotel is centrally located in Esens, where the bear taps...
We stayed there for 4 nights, our room was small but perfectly adequate for these days. We also had a small terrace, which we did not use due to the temperatures. We ate there once in the evening, the food was extremely delicious. Drink prices, as in almost all of East Frisia, are quite high. We chose the food from the offer of the week and were not disappointed.
The breakfast buffet leaves almost nothing to be desired... Fast. Unfortunately, what I personally cannot understand, you only get coffee. This is served in a pot at table. Sometimes he was hot, other times unfortunately lukewarm. Cappuccino or other coffee preparations cost extra. Strange. Like I said, incomprehensible to me. But, well... The rolls could not be baked quite as crisp, but that is also a matter of taste.
Otherwise everything very clean, the restaurant, by also having breakfast, is very cozy.
You come on very well developed bike paths ratz fatz to the coast to Bensersiel. Esens itself also has a nice pedestrian area which is worth a visit.

Not as good as it was a few years ago
We were at this hotel a few years ago and remembered the stay much better back then.
The staff is still a positive highlight. All employees were very friendly, attentive, and helpful – there is really nothing to complain about there. The rooms were also clean and good overall.
Unfortunately, in our view, the hotel has declined significantly in other areas. The breakfast was more than meager for a 3-star superior hotel and the price charged. For example, there was no scrambled egg, the only coffee machine was very slow, so queues formed regularly, and the orange juice was so heavily diluted that it was not drinkable at all.
During our stay, we also noticed that other guests had previously complained about the price-performance ratio of the breakfast. In our impression, the owner was already aware of the criticism – especially regarding the heavily diluted juices. It is all the more disappointing that apparently nothing has changed in this regard. Instead of improving the quality, we get the impression that they are cutting corners in the wrong places here.
The restaurant also now offers significantly fewer dishes than it did a few years ago. A smaller menu is generally not a problem if the quality is right. Although the food was okay, in our view, the price-performance ratio is no longer right here either. We would have expected significantly more for the prices charged.
Overall, the stay was pleasant, primarily thanks to the friendly staff, but compared to our previous visit, the hotel has unfortunately noticeably declined. Especially regarding breakfast and the price-performance ratio, we see a clear need for improvement.
There are certainly hotels in the area that, from our perspective, offer a significantly better price-performance ratio. Therefore, we would not recommend this hotel at this time and would choose different accommodation for a future stay.

North Sea location with coolness factor
Beautiful hotel in a great location with a cool design. Elements of the former butcher's shop, along with decorations and private photos, are lovingly embedded. Good food, a lovely bar and a really excellent breakfast. Super attentive service. If you're looking for a less nostalgic North Sea break, this is the place for you. The small wellness area is definitely worth a visit, unfortunately I only tried it after my fifth visit and really regretted it. It's super relaxed with wellness TV and lounge music in the background. It's also easy and inexpensive to get to by public transport.

Nord sea escape
A 3 night over stay whilst cycling around the sea coast. The Hotel is on one of the main roads that lead into the town of Esens. The Hotel stay in general was a nice place, spacious room,clean and tidy and the food was of good quality. Breakfast is continental and for the price it was well worth it. The restaurant is also the Bar and relaxation area and has a separate smoking area for those who smoke. Unfortunatley this is the main bar area wich if you don't smoke you drink in the restaurant area. The heating in the restaurant area was overwelming at times. I sat by the window at times to open them and cool down. You can eat your meals with just a tea shirt or shirt on. Up stairs in the corridors and rooms are particular cold. The parking leaves a lot to be said. There is little activity at the reception desk as the staff duel up to do other jobs. All in all its a nice place to stay but could be better if attention to detail was observed. Ie: a kettle and Tea/Coffee making facilities in the room would help.
