Worth avoiding

Describing the Dolphin as a Hotel really is an exaggeration, at best it could be described as a Contractors B&B somewhere to try and get some sleep.
The rooms are very dated, with no curtains other than nets, and every room has a Macerator in the toilet so its very noisy. The locals also tend to argue and fight in the stairwell to the rooms.
On our visit there was clear evidence to drug consumption in the ladies toilet, cocaine and cannabis.
The food can only be described as awful, they use the cheapest ingredients and offer out of date produce. Look at the pictures, cooked breakfast, cheap frozen sausages, eggs hard, recooked beans. The hotel will say the kitchen is franchised out, but in actual fact it is run by the licensees partners mother. Anyway, franchised out, is no excuse if the food is being served on your premises.
The licensee is constantly under the influence, on departing he overcharged us by £25 per night, trying to get him to explain was fighting a loosing battle as he was still under the influence from the night before. We just paid and were happy to leave.
This is not a family hotel, the state some people get themselves into in front of children and the management do nothing to intervene.

The Residents Bar

Just went in to the Residents Bar to order a Liquor coffee. I was told he can do a separate coffee with a separate Liquor but cannot do one together. For that you have to eat in the side room, I will avoid the word resteraunt as it looks nothing like one. Apparently, so I am told it is Company Policy, what ever that means. Never heard anything so daft in my life, particularly as they would need to go from the side room to get the Liquor in any case. The place is seriously in need of an update.

Clean and Basic

We booked here to save driving home in the same day. The hotel itself is great for the price. It looks a little run down from the outside but the rooms are clean. The only problem is we came with 2 kids and there ended up 3 people having a fight on the landing. The language was disgusting and I had to ask the staff to come up. It was fine till 11pm but it all kicked off again with a lady crying outside of the room. This went on till after midnight and my kids couldn't sleep. I don't think it's the hotels fault but maybe could have asked them to leave.

Not impressed

Firstly I have been informed that new owners have taken over so maybe a work in progress. But my experience was poor. The rooms were tired and the shower was held together with a cable tie and gaffer tape. The kettle was still full and when I emptied it black stuff came with it. When I tried to refill it I discovered both taps in my bathroom were warm. Well one was really hot and 1 was warm. When I asked about breakfast I was told we start it at 9 but not Mon Tues or Wed. Also I booked through booking.com at a price of 45 but was charged 50 when I got there. It has a great location and has potential to be a nice place but as I write this it's not worth the money. And I've never heard of a hotel starting breakfast at 9 as anyone on business would be gone by then. I left in the morning at 8.45 and there was no one there. I must admit though the staff were pleasant and helpful so hopefully a work in progress.

Very good location
