Dinner for 8

We were staying on the edge of the village of Cucugnan and wanted to have a 'last-night' dinner before our children flew home. The staff at the Auberge were very accommodating finding us a table for 8 on the upper floor. The food was superb - we all ate from the set menu and there was a good choice of options to please us all including my sons girlfriend who is a vegetarian.
My rudimentary French was adequate to communicate and we had an excellent evening of good food, local wine and lots of laughter.

Excellent Lunch

With the remnants of our tour group, we had lunch here. My wife and I started with a large salad that included a piece of toasted bread with two pieces of toasted brie on top. The salad also had pieces of tomato and 2 olives. Our entree was a large mushroom omelette with vegetables and scalloped potatoes. The dessert was what I would call a wonderfully unhealthful piece of cheesecake with whipped cream. Great-tasting meal. Because we just had lunch here, I can't say anything helpful about the hotel.

Great base for exploring the local history

Have stayed here in years past and it was a pleasure to return...we had no idea that the management/owners had changed just 3 weeks ago so our 2 night stay was always going to be interesting...as it turned out, the husband and wife team plus staff could not have been more helpful & friendly and therefore the odd minor issue was never a problem !
From serving drinks outside to running the restaurant,we were more than happy..the rooms are scheduled for some updates but nevertheless were comfortable and had all the facilities required...it will be good to go back again in due course just to see what new ideas the new owners introduce after they settle in...

Charming little restaurant for lunch

Our group had a set menu, first a plate of charcuterie and then an "omelette" with potatoes and vegetables. It wasn't truly an omelette, which would have had to be made separately for each person. It was eggs and mushrooms, baked and then cut in squares. It was very tasty but not delicate like an omelette. The dessert was a delicious berry and cheese pie.

Take turns in using your room

I assume there better rooms in this place, but the one we had was so small that two people could not even move around at the same time. The window opened to a court yard hardly six feet wide and facing the window of the neighboring room. So, if you wanted any privacy you had to keep the curtain closed. Wifi did not work in the room at all, you had to be in a tiny entrance space (after you walked up some steep stairs outside.) Certainly, the worst room we had on our 11 day trip through the South of France. The restaurant has a nice ambiance, some old stone walls, but the food is nothing to write home about and the portions are meager. On top of all, a grumpy owner who apparently considers it a favor that he lets you stay at all. A place to avoid. Based on research done afterwards, there is a much better hotel just a street over.
