More about Holmesdale House Bed And Breakfast

Holmesdale House Bed And Breakfast

Holmesdale House is the oldest house in the City of Duncan. It was built in 1881 by Reverend David Holmes, an Anglican minister sent to "Cowichan" to work with the local peoples. He was a major contributor to the early days of Duncan development; from bringing a mill onto his property to built not only this home but to provide timber for the new town. He constructed 7 churches in the area. St. Peters is still standing and is a fully functioning Anglican church today. So staying here is staying in a part of history! Lovingly restored to a 1910 Victorian era home, youll find the historical feel of the period but with all the modern amenities creatively included. Charming, historic home, conveniently located.

It's what I image Green Gables to be like! Very clean; lovely bedding. There's a common area (with fridge) separating the rooms for privacy. We stayed in room 1. The hostess is very knowledgeable about the Cowichan valley area and happy to take the time to provide directions. The breakfast room is sunny & spacious. Fresh fruit & baked goods, eggs, lots of other healthy breakfast options. Very conveniently situated for driving into the countryside & nearby towns (you can avoid the highway entirely!) Easy 20 minute walk into downtown Duncan which is a beautifully preserved, old fashioned town...think "It's a Wonderful Life" or "Back to the Future" (complete with clock tower). Large, stunning collection totem of poles located all around town! We had a very pleasant 3 night stay!

A heritage house in the heart of the Cowichan Valley

This is our third visit to Holmesdale House and Cassandra welcomed us like family. The room is lovely, with a shared sitting room upstairs and a large dining room downstairs - like being in your own home. Books, DVD's, exercise stuff and a fridge all available for use. With lots of character and history, the house is in a quiet cul-de-sac with woods nearby. Highly recommended.

Reunion

I enjoyed a reunion with some friends and stayed at this lovely home. It had all the charm of a Heritage home with modern convenience. It is beautifully furnished and clean. Although it was a particularly cold week for the area I was toasty warm under cozy bedding. Breakfast was plentiful and provided yummy choices. The organic coffee was terrific! The location was great with lots to do in the area. Local restaurants were great.
