Excellent Bnb in lovely area of Sheffield

Owner greeted me on arrival, very friendly and welcoming. Room was in the annexe, just across from the main hotel, it was spotless, spacious and well appointed. Very quiet at night and in the daytime, easy walk to some local cafes. Good value for money and will definitely stay again.

Friendly Owner Mouldy Bread & Character

Positives were
Wi-Fi worked
toilet was clean
towels were clean The building has high ceilings and lots of character and the host Sal was very accommodating helped me in and out of the car with my bags as I had my 19 month old son with me Also Sal provided extra toilet paper when asked and asked what time I’d like breakfast
Negatives were questionable stains on the furniture out dated miss matched bedding and curtains very dusty my baby son crawled under the bed and when I pulled him out he looked like he’d been laying loft insulation
After eating two pieces of toast at breakfast I noticed mould on the other I said nothing of this of the time but took pictures as I do not like to confront people any how it’s a bog standard three star guesthouse so for the price you can’t expect the Savoy The only reason I’m giving it a three star is because the owner/host was attentive and nothing was too much I think he runs it on his own although he said his wife helps yet I only saw him from checking in to leaving so I should cut him some slack but the place needs a deep clean in places like the breakfast table and dining area and Extractor fans in the bathroom they could wash the seat cushions & a good hoover under the bed is needed Sal seems to work hard with little staff around if it ever had a revamp I’d stay again

A good location

Good points-This hotel is in a good, quiet , leafy suburb of Sheffield. Free parking by garages or in the road. Bus stop nearby and a local Sainsbury's and a local cafe.
Sal the owner was very friendly ,helpful and chatty and communicates well by phone and email. He seems to run it on his own, cooking breakfast, receptionist, bookings. he says he cannot get staff?
Was able to check in at 1pm which was great. Heating was on, so warm and had plenty of hot water.Clean bathroom with large corner bath and nice towels.
Tariff very reasonable and had the choice to pay for a breakfast which was adequate and refillable coffee, tea.
Not so good points- There was a fire door wedged open, the floors need a vacuum, particularly in the dining room. Our bedroom was dusty, eg top of headboard, bedside shelves, window frames, skirting boards, tea tray, doors, under bed. Comments found on other reviews also mention more attention to cleaning is needed. The whole place needs a thorough clean and thereafter regular cleaning to keep the dust away. It is a lovely house but needs more attention to upkeep.Paintwork and furniture is tired. Garden is over grown is some areas.
Our bed sheets had not been changed from previous guest but this was retified straight away with an apology, and the sheets were of good quality but how did this occur in the first place? The mattress was quite soft. The wardrobe was ample but dirty inside. Would like a shelf in the bathroom for putting toiletries as the shelving provided was very dirty and a hook on the back of bathroom door would be useful to hang clothes.Towel rail needs replacing as quite old.
I would stay again as I prefer to support smaller guest house /hotels rather than big chains eg Premier inn etc and location was perfect .I could not see many other small hotels in this area so limited for choice . However the place has to be cleaner as I would prefer not to do the cleaning myself which I did a little bit.
Breakfast although adequate , little variation on cooked breakfast. The tomato ketchup bottle , dirty inside cap, some fruit was old in fruit bowl.
This place needs a regular good cleaner, taking great care for detail, replacing some of the furniture and this would make such a difference to what potentially could be an excellent small hotel .

Old fashioned and run down with no hot water

I arrived to the hotel late in the evening after I had been stuck in traffic. The building is not well lit and has 2 entrances that I was not aware of and ended up going to the wrong one to start with. This entrance showed the conservatory of the building that was full of dust and old clutter. When a member of staff came and met me she showed me the room which as very outdated and run down. I went to have a shower in the morning and it was ice cold. I mentioned this to a member of staff who told me that the people to check out before me had used the last of the hot water. I was very disappointed and wont be staying here again.

Itching to get away

Positives: free parking. Dogs are welcome.
Good location. Friendly staff.
Negatives: Very dated room. Overpowering smell of bleach in the toilet. Boiling hot radiators (we turned them off) and no opening windows. There was something very odd going on with the wifi, as in, there was no wifi. Old double bed with dodgy metal headboard and lumpy mattress.
Myself and my husband spent the night itching and I have been bitten by I don't know what...
I have also never stayed in a hotel/air b&b/ guest house that provides tea and coffee making facilities, but where you have to pay extra for the actual tea and coffee??
The conservatory at the side of the building looked filthy, dirty curtains and was in a state of general disrepair (this didn't affect our stay, but it's not pleasant to see and makes you wonder about the general cleanliness of the place)
I felt as though the whole place needed some love and attention. Sorry to say we wouldn't stay again.
