Fantastic Stay at the dog friendly Farnley Tower B&B
We had a wonderful stay at Farnley Tower B&B. The location is excellent, just a short walk from Durham, and the free parking was a real bonus.
A special mention goes to Anna, the fantastic manager, who made us ( and our dog Morgan) feel so welcome throughout our stay.
Breakfast was outstanding, with an extensive menu to choose from. The chef deserves particular praise for cooking the best poached eggs we’ve ever had!
The B&B is extremely dog friendly, which made travelling with our dog completely stress-free. Having a great Indian restaurant ( Holi and Bhang)underneath the hotel that is also dog friendly was an added bonus.
We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend Farnley Tower B&B to anyone visiting Durham.
Tips
Takes around 20 minutes to walk into the centre of Durham and it’s a steep walk back . However there are a few nice dog friendly traditional pubs on the way back up the hill such as ye old Elm Tree and holy gAle which break up the journey( both on Allergate)
Excellent Dog friendly eateries that we frequented include Veeno ( Italian) and the Food Pit ( various choices)
The cathedral is also dog friendly and very impressive so well worth a visit
There is a nice riverwalk around the city too
A visit to Beamish open air museum was incredible and dog friendly and don’t miss the Angel of the North on the way to Newcastle

Very welcoming
We had an unexpected visit to Durham, our grandchild decided to come a month early. We rang the hotel to enquire about staying and had a conversation with a very friendly lady who advised they only had one room left which was on the top floor and had sloping ceilings she asked whether this would be a problem. We decided to book because we really weren't sure if anywhere else would be available. We were welcomed by the same lady I spoke to on the phone who showed us the room before booking in case we were not happy. The room was great it did have sloping ceilings and in part you had to duck but it was so well done it really was a lovely room, the top floor was not too high only two small flights of stairs. The hotel has been done to a very high standard and all the fittings are again of a very high standard., The bed was lovely and comfortable and the full English breakfast was lovely, the chef does a very good poached egg. Would stay again here as the hotel is lovely and the staff, especially the lady who looked after us, are brilliant.

Wonderful place to stay with amazing staff
What an amazing stay at this lovely Guesthouse. A lovely warm welcome from Anna and her team, nothing was too much trouble.
We stayed in room 2, a.superb ground floor room with high ceilings and a large bay window overlooking the front of the property.
One of the most comfortable nights sleep we've had away from home.
Breakfast was wonderful, so much choice and cooked to perfection.
Please don't let the property being on a hill put you off, as this place is amazing.

We had a lovely stay over the Durham Regatta weekend. Perfect for our needs, Big comfy room and tremendous breakfast. Free parking. Top notch.
