Relaxing summer vacation
Very friendly and competent hosts, have very good tips, perfect breakfast, super relaxed atmosphere - it doesn't get any better for people who are looking for peace and quiet and no tourist crowds.

Our favourite retreat in the world
We’ve just spent the most wonderful week at Vale Das Estrelas – our second visit, basically because we can’t keep away.
It is staggeringly beautiful, unbelievably peaceful, and the perfect retreat from the world, surrounded by stunning countryside, huge skies and a madly rugged, dramatic coastline. It feels remote in the best possible way, but you’re still close enough to shops, beaches and anything else you might need.
For us, it’s the perfect escape. Somewhere to slow down, breathe, read, walk, eat well, try to stay alive in the mad seas, and simply enjoy being somewhere truly special.
Al and Ana are the most gorgeous hosts and always make us feel so welcome. There’s such warmth to the place, and you can really feel the love and care they’ve poured into it. With fewer than 20 guests spread across six lodges, it’s also incredibly peaceful and quiet.
We absolutely love coming here and always leave feeling restored, relaxed and already planning our next visit.

A gem!
The Vale das Estrelas is a gem not to be missed. It is tucked down a dirt road, nestled in a pine grove with spectacular views. Not far from the coast, it is the perfect location to explore the southwest Alentejo by foot or by car. A friend of mine and I stayed there in February 2026. Al and Ana are the perfect hosts - very welcoming and attentive, full of good humor and fascinating stories. Ana is a great cook - we had one breakfast and one dinner there and - just yum! Al gave us a really interesting tour of what they are trying to accomplish there - being off-grid, planting indigenous vegetation, encouraging local culture and craftsmanship. We had a car and they had super recommendations for sites to see - Odemira and the coast were hi-lights. The cottage we stayed in was super sweet - great little kitchen, excellent shower, comfortable beds, and a fireplace that Al lit nightly. If you are looking for tranquility, you could not do better than the Vale das Estrelas!

Utterly unique and forgettable - desperate to return
Vale das Estrelas is one of those rare places that takes your breath away the moment you arrive. My husband and I have just had the most sublime week there, and part of me wants to keep it our secret, but it’s far too special not to share.
It feels blissfully remote, wrapped in peace, silence, and endless, vast views, yet wild beaches, forests and little villages are all within easy reach. We loved wandering through cork oaks and olive groves, then returning to the endless dark skies and stillness.
The accommodation is gorgeous: spacious and homely, with private terraces looking out over rolling hills and endless forest. The clubhouse and infinity pool are a dream and we spent lazy mornings there, relaxing, reading, eating, and swimming out toward those views.
What makes it unforgettable, though, are Ana and Al. Their warmth and thoughtfulness made us feel not like guests, but friends invited to share in their beautiful estate. They strike the perfect balance between kindness and giving you space, with little personal touches that mean the world.
We also loved how everything is thoughtfully sustainable—off-grid, solar-powered, carefully designed—yet never at the expense of comfort.
Each day felt different: fiery sunsets, remote, deserted beaches, cooking in our apartment, or simply reading on the terrace with only birdsong around us. The privacy is priceless and you feel the whole valley is yours. And those nights under the stars will stay with us forever.
We left feeling completely renewed, refreshed, and already dreaming of when we can return.

Fantastic experience!
I went with a group of my online painting class (Cheese and Wine Painting Club) to this lovely retreat just north of the Algarve. It was beautifully peaceful, no other buildings around, open clear skies and beautiful views. Run by an energetic , professional young couple who are operating the whole place off grid and eco friendly. There was a large central club house where we had gorgeous home cooked healthy meals and had painting classes on the patio overlooking the valley and next to their infinity pool. We also drove a few miles to a wonderful, empty sand beach with surfing waves and a bar overlooking one day. We could have had yoga lessons, massages and wine tastings of the region as extra activities. It was simply sublime.
