Friendly, traditional hotel
We stayed here to attend part of the Arnhem memorial that takes place at this time of year.
Locationwise, the hotel is situated in a quiet residential road, just down from the Kroller Mueller museum. The area is wooded and very attractive and great for walking, cycling etc. The museum is worth visiting - has the biggest collection of Van Gogh's I've ever seen - and the sculpture park is a delight to walk around. You have the opportunity to drive to the museum or use the white bicycles for free to get around within the bounds of the park.
't Witte Huis is run by a charming husband and wife team and their staff - he breeds Friesen horses and teaches people to drive them with a trap ... or could just take you out for a drive. The rooms are clean and relatively spacious. Breakfast is enormous and varied and included in the room price.
The evening meal is good quality, but not cheap - we ate both nights and were not disappointed. The surrounding area has several good places to eat, apart from this one. We also tried the Hotel/Restaurant Groot Warnsborn, Bakenbergseweg 277 in Arnhem, which offers a fancier style of cooking - it's an old country house in its own grounds.
The bar tends to close at about 11pm, although this is not a done deal - on the Saturday evening this had stretched by more than an hour.
Our intention is to return and will probably stay here. Another member of our party is already making plans to do so!

Good Location, bit expensive
My sister and I stayed 1 night at this hotel on a Saturday night in June. We were on a driving holiday in The Netherlands and had not pre booked any accommodation. We were very lucky to get the last room, it was about 6pm when we got to Otterlo. At 119 euro for 2 people including breakfast we thought it was a bit expensive. There did not appear to be a lot of accommodation choices in this town.
The rooms were of a good size, ours was down stairs near the front door, so you could hear people coming and going. There were facilities to make tea or coffee in the room, unfortunately the coffee and sugar had not been replaced.
The restaurant was not open the night we were there, but we had a lovely meal at the Italian restaurant just up the road. (walking distance).
Breakfast was at their sister hotel (cheaper rooms, but booked out) just up the road. It was a good spread.
We had a great morning riding the free white bikes in the National Park. We did not visit the Kroller Muller Museum.

room practical; food great
We spent one winter night here to walk in de veluwe and visit the museum (try and book a tour of the jachthuis, it is a very remarkable house). February is a great time to visit as it is very quiet.
We had a "comfort" room for a special last minute rate which made the price / quality good. The room was on the ground floor and therefore a bit noisy as you can hear people entering and exiting the hotel in the morning (nights are quiet). Beds were ok, room was not too big, but as we did not spend much time in the room we did not mind. Location in Otterlo (which is very small) is nice as you can walk to some other places for a drink or a simple meal. If you do not want a simple meal, the hotel has a great restaurant, which looks much better than the room! The decor and service is as one would expect from a high quality restaurant (I am not sure there are many like this around Otterlo). The quality of the food was good; although the food is not cheap (similar to prices in Amsterdam), the wines are fairly priced. The house itself is very beautiful on the outside, so are the communal areas of the hotel.
Current owners have been here since beginning of 2011. We would certainly not mind coming back.

A Good Choice Near Kroller Muller
We stayed here while visiting the Kroller Muller museum, and overall it was a good choice. It's just down the road and about a 10 minute walk to the museum park entrance.
Our room was pretty basic for the price-nothing fancy. But it was quiet and clean, which was all we needed.
We ate at the hotel one night and were surprised to find a gourmet menu, very well prepared. It was expensive but a good alternative to the rather basic alternatives in Otterlo.
2 complaints. First, breakfast is not served until 8:30, so no early starts here. Second, th y couldn't get my US issued Visa card to work in their machine. They asked for another card and wound up suggesting I go to the ATM machine and get cash. That Visa card worked throughout Europe on our trip, so the problem was on their end. Not what you expect from a good place like this.

Not the best
My wife and I spent two nights here, booked as a 'weekend away from the kids'. If you go here, don't plan on being too romantic because they don't have double beds. What we got was two singles pushed together, each with a single set of linen. We asked; this is apparently the same for the entire hotel. The hotel itself absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke and our 'delux' room had so many scarrs and marks on the walls it looked like it had been used as a squash court. All in all, they charge a very premium price for a VERY average hotel. You should be able to get better value for money in this area.
