Best in town

Best Hotel in town
I this ciry it's difficult to find a good hotels. All what we found three stars but on uzbek standards. But this one at least give their efforts to make customer happy. Reception is really helpful. And polite and speaks fluent English. Rooms are decent and comfortable. Not much luxury, but again, we are in Samarkand! Nearby some fast-food and walking distance to the UNESCO heritage site the Bazar. I really recommen this hotel after terrible experience we had in Tashkent.

Reasonable choice

For Samarkand - it's reasonable choice. Hotel provides basic amenities for short stay. Located a bit aside of main tourist attractions, so you need to use a taxi for commuting. Otherwise it around 30 minutes walk from market, which is on down-end of pedastrian street from Registan area. This walk is not very pleasant, as many stairs, in some places sidewalk is missing at all etc. Hotel itself located on busy and noisy junction of streets. Some local places to eat nearby.
Room was basic, but adequate. As mentioned, some problems with water temperature. Breakfast typical for such type of hotels in Uzbekistan. Service was reasonable, wi-fi worked during stay well. Possible to pay by cards.
Positive: wi-fi quality, polite service.
Negative: water temperature, location.
Overall reasonable choice, if everything else is not available.

Many issues to fix

We stayed as part of our tour and was a change from our original hotel.. We were allocated 3rd floor and no lift. I think it has not worked for a long time. The bed was very hard and small. The room was small and we had trouble moving around our luggage. The shower was dangerous with scalding hot then freezing cold water and it leaked over the floor. Dimly lit bathroom! Hotel is on a busy intersection with poor lighting and is noisy. I would not recommend unless you are a backpacker.

Not the best experience

We were a group of seven persons and stayed in Hotel Bek for four nights. It was most definitely not the best experience for some of us.
The rooms were allotted randomly and while some got suites , others got rooms with hardly any space to move. I was appalled to find used bath robes and mops piled high on a table in our room! The lady receptionist had a lackadaisical attitude when informed about it. She just came and picked up the pile with a So What look on her face. Another group member got a suite with several mattresses lying in one part of the suite. Another member got a terrible room and we all had to put in request for change of rooms. We are all 70+ and the elevator remained out of service for the entire duration of our stay.
Some of the rooms get a great deal of noise from the street.
Some good points: apart from the lady receptionist , we found all other staff members to be very courteous and helpful. The breakfast is adequate , though all quite cold.
A word of advice- please choose your room carefully and request for a ground floor room if any health issues.

Poorly designed, poorly constructed, poorly maintained

There is no electric outlet near the desk or near the water kettle, or anywhere convenient. There is a high threshold under the bathroom door for you to stub your toe on. There is only one dim light bulb in the center of the bathroom, so your face in the mirror is in a shadow. The shower leaks water so the bathroom floor will have a puddle. In the shower, the hot water is to the right, while at the sink, the hot water is at the left, the result of hiring an incompetent plumber. The elevator was broken, and not repaired during our stay, so people had to climb 3 flights of stairs. On the second day, we discovered that our door would not lock, so for 24 hours, while we were away and while asleep, our door was unlocked.The TV screen is very small. There was no fruit except apples at breakfast, and no coffee except instant.
The hotel is fairly new. Everything was clean. The WiFi worked fairly well, although a little slow. The HVAC worked well. The TV gets BBC and EuroNews and reception was consistently good. The staff at reception were helpful and spoke English.
