Excellent value and what a place
Sadili is a fine establishment in a great location - it is not by any means your normal tourist trap, but gives a real insight into life for many in Nairobi. Great fish and chips too! Wonderful sporting facilities

Terrible, been in far better hostels
This is long but takes while to really explain how bad it got.
The showers are absolutely disgusting. Layers and layers of slime have hardened over the years and are permanently caked on the fixtures. Nonetheless, the first day I had a hot shower, but after I was done the water wouldn't turn off. I was lucky to know what room the tech was staying in. The tech tried to work on it but there was no wrench available for him to turn off the nozzle (the faucet had broken off). So he turned off the main water supply to the whole building in hopes it would stop. It ran all night and stopped about 6 am. Very steamy and loud night listening to the dripping. The next day when I got back to the room the faucet was reattached but didn't actually turn on any hot water. They then said that was my fault that I was trying to turn the hot water faucet- that I should only turn the cold. Ok fine- makes no sense but I'll try. Later in the day I was washing my hands and the shower started hen I turned on the sink faucet. I asked a staff person outside and she said I was pushing the handle up in the middle instead of on the side. Ok fine- I tried again the next day. No water out of hot side, there was cold but it never got hot. (And yes I had turned on the heater). So they give me a key to the next door room. I gather all my shower things and get undressed, turn both knobs, no water at all out of either faucet. Eventually we tried and tried and found a combination of the sink faucet and both shower knobs that produced a drizzle of luke warm water. At least I got clean.. Next day, still no water in my shower but the sink is at least working. That night there is a storm and we lose all power. The power controls the water pressure so we had no sinks, no toilets that flushed, and no showers for the last 24 hours.
No discount was offered and in fact they charged more per night than I was quoted. The rate I paid is about what you'd pay at a Motel 6 I similar in the states. Far too much for a room with no electricity, no working hot water, and occasionally no water at all.
Also- the food is literally dangerous. The kitchen staff comes out to cook in the mornings about 6 or 7 am and the yell at each other in the area just outside the rooms. It sounds like they are banging thee pots together for 30 minutes plus the yelling and music. It sounds like it is literally in your room because the walls are so thin. The food is also stored overnight at room temp. Nothing you have at breakfast has been refrigerated. May be okay for their stomachs but not Americans and Europeans.
Just over all a terrible experience and I feel ripped off. My driver to the airport laughed at me when I told him what I paid. I looked up other places with similar rates and there are much better options available. I would not return and wouldn't recommend anyone spend their money there.

Dear @25langie: We are sad that this happened to you. I recently left US to facilitate the regrowth of this facility, now under new management and much has been done to refurbish, and we would welcome you to visit again. We would certainly offer you a couple of days free to make up for such an unfortunate experience. Again, that was an unfortunate experience and hopefully, you will be happy with the changes if you ever get to come to Kenya again.

My short stay at Sadili
The place was at little bit off the city. The Environment was not too bad. There was no good restaurant. The hotel staff were exceptionally friendly and good. There were no fans or air conditioner in my room but at the time of visit the weather was generally cool, so I did not feel the effect much. There was no lift. On a general note, I would say the place was just average.

Beautiful, authentic place to stay
Sadili will always have a special place in my heart. I stayed for an extended stay that lasted about a month through a program that was in Nairobi shooting a documentary. My team and I stayed in Gona Suites, about a good four or five flight of stairs going up to the rooms. There is nice greenery around the building and open lighting -- it creates a beautiful, welcoming atmosphere to stay in. The lodging is hygenic, and daily maid service is provided. Also, the attendant, David, was wonderful and always on-site to help with whatever issue may have arised (light's going out, showers running cold) and Sadili was always quick to get it resolved. It's certainly not a five-star hotel (there's mosquito nets provided over each bed -- tip: USE THEM), but definitely far from below-average quality. Sheets were replaced each day and bathrooms and rooms were cleaned each day. The housecleaning service also provides clothes-washing, but keep in mind it's hand-wash and may take a day or two to dry, depending on the weather. Concerning transportation, it's a five-minute walk to the nearest Matatu stops, and it can range from 30-45 minutes of a commute to downtown depending on traffic. It's a good 10-15 minutes from The Galleria shopping mall, 10 mintues from a grocery store. Something I also truly appreciated most was the security and safety that I felt in staying at Sadili. It's a gated residency, so there are gates around the neighborhood as well as the Oval itself. I recommend anyone going to Nairobi to stay at Sadili, as the funds help sustain the athletic programs at Sadili Oval Sports Academy. There was something so sweet and genuine about waking up to passing the students on their way to classes and coming home to children laughing and playing sports as the evening arrived each day. The restaurant food is delicious, the staff and students are wonderful and welcoming, and I can't recommend this place enough; you fall in love with it.

A family away from home
The rooms were comfortable and very clean. Included wifi was so helpful! Laundry service was available, close to some local transit if that how you plan on getting around. All in all a great value. But what made Sadili so fantastic was the people, they were all so acomidating, and many have turned into friends I am still in touch with today. I stayed at Sadili for about a month, and my Nairobi experience would not have been the same without it.
