Gora Hanaougi - Our dream is to return

Our stay at Gora Hanaougi from 4th - 6th May was something we will never forget.
From the moment we arrived, we were treated with such warmth, kindness, and genuine hospitality that we were honestly left at a loss for words. Staying somewhere as special as Gora Hanaougi is not normal for us, and we felt truly honoured to experience such incredible care and attention from all of the lovely ladies and gentlemen working there.
Wearing our yukata to breakfast and dinner made the experience feel very authentic, and the food itself was an unforgettable insight into the wonders of Japanese cuisine. Every meal was beautifully prepared and presented. Breakfast especially was a banquet unlike anything we are used to back home in Scotland!
A very special thank you to Hata-san, who looked after us morning and night throughout our stay. We hope we have not misspelled her name. We know she enjoys Scottish whisky, so… Slàinte Mhath, or as we explained it, “Slanj-a-va”. Your hospitality exceeded every expectation and made our stay even more meaningful.
And to my Japanese teacher too: ippon bīru kudasai!!
What a genuinely profound experience this was for us both. We already dream of visiting again one day in the future.

This was the most pleasant and luxurious stay that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. From the moment you walk onto the property to the moment you check-out, the staff are there to help you with luggage, check-in, settling in, and planning your days both on the property and to see the surrounding area. This property is located in the gorgeous mountains of Hakone an offers the most gorgeous views of the mountains right from the room and balconies where you can bathe in your private onsen. Also included in your stay are traditional breakfast and dinner which on their own are worth the price. This experience is nothing short of amazing and I would recommend anyone travelling to Japan to experience at least one night here.

Stayed in a suite with private onsen and lounge area. We were a family of 4 and this was perfect for us. The room was comfortable, clean and all the little extras were a treat. The futons were also the nicest we had in Japan!
The food was amazing but soooo much of it! We tried to ask for less but I don’t think they know how to do less!
Location was great with lovely views and the lift straight from the hotel to the ropeway was very helpful.
Staff were fantastic, we felt like honoured guests. Having the car service from Gora station was also very helpful.
We stayed in many different places during our 3 week trip and this was my favourite. Highly recommend.

We had a wonderful stay at Gora Hanaougi. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, and everything was spotlessly clean. The location was perfect — being so close to Sounzan Station made it easy to visit Owakudani, and the shuttle service to Gora Station was very convenient. Highly recommend!

Beautiful room, amazingly attractive & kind staff, dinner was an event we won’t forget. Loved the location, near open air museum & ropeway. All was spectacular!
