One of the best holidays I’ve ever had

I had an amazing stay here. Can honestly say it is potentially one of the best holidays I’ve ever been on and I can’t quite understand how we got such a good deal for the price we did. Stresa is beautiful and so picturesque, the main town centre is a 15-20 minute walk from the hotel which initially concerned me but actually I was very thankful for, you can walk all the way along the lakeside to get there and those walks became some of my favourite parts of the trip. When we first checked in we wondered if there were any other guests staying in the hotel as it was so quiet! But over the week saw a number of people, it felt like a very nice amount. Not too many people that you felt crowded but not eerily quiet. We were very easily able to get some poolside loungers regardless of time of day. The pool is on the smaller side but due to the number of guests that tend to be around/in the pool it was perfect. There were times where we were the only ones in the pool. The piano that often played inside while we sat out by the pool added to the ambiance. It seemed to be the same song/variations of the same song every day and I wished I had recorded it/asked what song it was that was being played. We wondered whether it was actually an original, but we loved it. Often classical music played during breakfast which was a nice touch. The breakfast was maybe smaller than others I have had but honestly was the perfect amount of variety for me - they had scrambled eggs, bacon, a toasting station, fruits, yogurt, cereals, mini pastries and jams. I couldn’t have asked for any more. The blood orange juice was very nice! The hotel service staff were lovely and said hello every day. It was just a really lovely feel to the hotel and all the people around. I absolutely want to come back to stresa and lake maggiore, I’ve never felt such a lovely vibe of a place anywhere else. It was so tranquil and calm. I could have honestly stayed forever. There is a ferry port just next to the hotel that can take you over to the 3 islands and if you walk just to the left of the ferry port you can sit by the lake and dip your feet in with some gorgeous views. Definitely bring bug spray and bite cream! As that was something I wasn’t expecting quite so much of - the amount of mosquitoes but being by water it made sense. Also highly recommend going to parco pallavicino - it is a near 30 min walk from the hotel but definitely worth it. If you have any reservations at all honestly do not hesitate. The holiday exceeded all expectations and the location is genuinely unmatched. I wish I could have never left.

Hotel is a No NO

Stayed at the Hotel Royal on August 5 and 6th. The hotel itself is old and the rooms are small, but the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. The internet was not working the fist day, and I had work to do. When I inquired at the front desk the host told me "The internet is down and we don't know when it will be back up." An inconvenience for sure. The main complaint I have is with the bartender named Sylvio. Totally Rude! First my wife asked him a question, and he answered with a smart ass remark that I figured he just had a bad day. Then I ordered a couple drinks from him, and once again he was totally out of line. He screamed at me for trying to help myself to free appertivos that were sitting out for free. Made the guests feel unwanted.
I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone, and Sylvio has no business being in a customer hospitality business.

The hotel was like a step back in time, which we absolutely loved. The staff were all incredible, kind, considerate and caring. The service they provided was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. The meals were lovely as were the drinks on the terrace and canapés. The pool area was lovely and the pool itself a welcome relief from the heat of the day. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Fantastic hotel

Wonderful stay at this beautiful hotel. So friendly and welcoming, especially Silvio's Aperitvo Time which he offers every evening (fantastic aperitifs with his compliments). The hotel is very close to a wonderful scenic walk into Stresa from the harbour at Carciano. We had trips to the 3 islands as well as a day trip to Switzerland all highlighted for us by Suzie our TUI rep.

Hotel Royal Stresa

This was our second visit to Stresa and the first at this hotel. We chose it for its locatioon about 25 mins stroll through the lakeside gardens from Stresa centre, but also handy for boat trips from the lido jetty about 5 mins away. The hotel is traditional in style, but our room appeared to have been decorated very recently. It was very clean - my wife can spot a speck of dust at 100 metres and she used the word "pristine"!
Staff at reception and breakfast were friendly and helpul, and the breakfast was a generous buffet style. It was very hot during our stay so the A/C was essential, also the free safe in the room was a bonus. We thought the beds were quite comfortable.
A couple of points where simple improvements could be made, though. The wardrobe is just about adequate, so replacing the open bedside tables with cupboard/drawer units would help a little. Also, a shower caddy would have been appreciated.
To be fair, there's an enormous shelf along one wall if you don't mind storing some items in the open.
We thought a well deserved 4/5 score.
A final point, the EES process at Malpensa T2 was an absolute doddle - 15 mins to clear!
