Clean and comfortable stay near Virupaksha temple.
We visited Hampi in early January 2026, when the weather was just perfect, and stayed for three days at Rocky’s Guesthouse. It’s a family-run place, and we were warmly welcomed by Rakesh’s mother, which instantly set a homely tone for our stay.
The rooms were comfortable, clean, and well maintained, and the staff was polite and helpful throughout. A special shout-out to the bathrooms, they were spotlessly clean, with new fittings and very well kept, which really made a difference.
There are plenty of eateries around the guesthouse. A special mention goes to Gopi Restaurant, located bang opposite the guesthouse, serving good Indian and continental food.
Rakesh and his family were extremely kind and guided us well in planning our Hampi sightseeing. They also shared reliable auto-rickshaw contacts, which was very helpful. Since this was an all-ladies trip, safety was an important concern for us, and we found Hampi to be quite safe, especially around the Virupaksha Temple area.
The Hampi market is walkable from the guesthouse, and we found ourselves strolling there most evenings. While it has the usual touristy shops, it’s vibrant and lively enough to be enjoyable.
Overall, it’s a great place to stay with good food options nearby, mostly vegetarian, and excellent sightseeing. Virupaksha temple is 5 min walking distance from the guesthouse. Some must-see spots include Virupaksha Temple, Vitthala Temple, the Big Narasimha statue, and the Ganesha temples. We opted for guides at the major monuments, and it was absolutely worth it for a deeper understanding of Hampi’s history.

Great little guest house
Simple rooms but with good hot water and wifi, very firm beds. The location is great but the best thing is the owner, Rocky, who had run the place for 30 years and can arrange anything you need at very fair prices eg airport taxis, rickshaws, and even sleeper bus tickets to Goa. Hampi is truly wonderful but absolutely huge you will need a rickshaw to see it all. I can recommend Giri, arranged by Rocky for me for two days, who took great care of me and made sure I saw everything worth seeing. One day seeing the historic sites and the next over the river to visit active temples, see the beautiful paddy fields etc. to eat, o would recommend Taste of Brahmin for Indian breakfast (no menu, but always masala dosa, idli, appe etc - all really good) and the Annapurna Cafe, friendly staff, good rice dishes and lassi.

Simple and very good location
Guesthouse with basic comfort and well maintained. Decent room, slightly hard mattress, hot water, ventilo and air conditioning operational (ask for a room upstairs with air conditioning, better still on the back). Maybe a little expensive compared to other properties tested during our trip.
Welcome, Rocky is very friendly, knowledgeable and willing to help.
Great location in the small streets of Hampi Bazaar, full of nice little restaurants and "tiffins" for great local breakfasts! (This more than compensates for the lack of breakfast service).
The village is quite quiet, it feels good!

Right in the middle of Hampi
Decent sized rooms and bathroom the AC was good too, the main temple is only a few hundred metres away and you can get a tuktuk to tour around the area for the others very cheaply, it's an ideal base to explore the area from, it's close to lots of restaurants with a couple of really good one's straight across the street

Solo Visit
At first glance, I was nervous about booking this because I’m a single woman traveling alone in a foreign country ( first time in India) and I didn’t speak the language. I couldn’t get a hotel and this was the only place available at the time due to the Hampi Utsav and I am so glad it worked out this way cause I would change a thing. The accommodation was simple and welcoming. There was hot water, internet, AC and a fan. Soap is provided but you will need your own shampoo and conditioner which I always carry. The host Rakesh was wonderful and helpful. It was difficult to get to the guest house due to the festival and Rakesh went above and beyond to make sure I got to my room in a very fun way. I travel by car, bus and motorcycle to get to my destination.
I had a minor injury and Rakesh took time off from his day to visit the doctor I used to make sure I was getting adequate service.
Hampi is beautiful and magical place and the guest house was so close to the UNESCO heritage site. It is safe to walk ( just a few feet) from the guest house to the temple. I walked by myself early in the morning and late at night from the guest house to the temples.
I’m so glad the universe conspired to allow me to visit Rocky guest house. It was a humbling experience. I went there as a stranger and left with a new brother - Rakesh. I love Hampi and I know I’m going to visit again and I hope when I do this guest house is available.
PS The restaurant across from the guest house is great and they use mineral water to wash all their vegetables. I’m from the west and I didn’t have any problems with stomach issues.
