Forced room upgrade, aggressive upselling, and zero family flexibility

I am writing this review to warn other travelers—especially families—about the operational priorities at Hotel Gran Barcelona. What should have been an enjoyable stay from August 26 to 28 turned into an uncomfortable, money-driven experience.
Upon arrival with my teenage daughter, the hotel rigidly refused to accommodate us in our booked room, forcing me to pay for an additional, separate room. While most hotels worldwide show basic flexibility to accommodate traveling families, this management chose to leverage strict policies to enforce an unnecessary, expensive upsell.
Throughout our two-night stay, it became clear that staff tactics revolve around aggressive upselling and tracking guest activity to maximize on-site spending. There is little regard for guest privacy or comfort; revenue is clearly the priority over basic hospitality.
Advice for future guests: If you are locked into a non-refundable booking here, do yourself a favor and eat outside the property. There are vastly superior food options nearby without the high-pressure sales environment inside the hotel.
I urge management to re-evaluate their service philosophy and treat traveling families with fairness rather than as sales targets.

Clean/Good location

Very nice hotel, clean, good location , had a fridge in room , comfortable beds,,,,,,Hotel is on a historic Roman ruins site and they have info about it and some artifacts,,,,

Hidden Gem

Beautiful hotel in a great location in Gothic Quarter! Hotel is modern, air conditioning works well in the rooms and lobby, beautiful lobby area, hotel beds are big - 2 North American sized twin beds pushed together to be the size of a king bed. I booked the 3 bedroom and had an extra twin bed in the room. Housekeeping was excellent - my room was cleaned daily.
