Exceptional quality and unique lodging experience!

Beautiful boutique hotel. Except for a little cold at night (like glamping), we absolutely loved our time at Lauraceas. The food was exceptional and birding right outside the lodge. Their garden was also truly beautiful.

Exceptional Family-Run Lodge with Fantastic Food and Incredible Hospitality

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Lauraceas Lodge. The lodge is set in a gorgeous valley high in the mountains of Costa Rica - peaceful, lush, and incredibly scenic.
It’s family-owned, and the entire family is absolutely amazing. They are some of the friendliest people we met on our trip and truly went out of their way to help us with anything we needed.
The food at the lodge was delicious. The trout was outstanding, and the included breakfast was extensive and fabulous- fresh-squeezed juices, homemade breads, and a choice of entrée each morning.
They also arranged a bird-watching tour for us, which was so much fun. We had a great time and saw tons of birds! It was an unforgettable experience.
I couldn’t recommend Lauraceas Lodge more. It was an absolutely wonderful stay, and we would happily return.

Lovely experience!

We had an amazing time at Lauraceas Lodge! The cabin we stayed in was so cozy with a beautiful view of the creek and forest. The quetzal and paramo tours that we booked through the hotel were exceptional. And all the food we had at the restaurant was delicious. As a birder, I also appreciated the dot patterns on the windows to prevent bird collisons!

Best accommodation and meals in San Gerardo de Dota!

Staying at Lauráceas was a highlight of our trip. This is a family-run lodge with heart and soul, located in a prime birding area in the Río Savegre Valley. Overnight accommodations consist of ten free-standing chalet-style cabins, nestled against the hillside. We stayed in a cabin at the very top, which requires a walk uphill, but was an absolute dream: very spacious, cozy, modern, well appointed, sparkling clean, and with an incredible view of the cloud forest. Previous reviews mention the cooler night temperatures; we found the cabin adequately warm, with layers of comfortable bedding and a portable heater provided. We had all our meals at the in-house restaurant, which was fantastic. The included breakfast was à la carte and delicious, with ample choices, plus freshly pressed juices and fruit. The farm-to-table dinners were outstanding. San Gerardo de Dota is a nature lover’s paradise, especially if you love birds. I spotted 20 different species alone, without even leaving the Lauráceas property. I highly recommend booking a bird watching tour through the lodge, especially if you would like to a see a Resplendant Quetzal (I did). A big thank you to the Chacón Mora family for their hospitality and making our stay so memorable!

All right.

Very nice place, friendly staff. The rooms are spacious and have a coffee maker and kettle. The restaurant is very good, we tasted a pinot noir from Chile very well. We had a little extra heating for the night but not enough and noisy. It's cold in the evening and in the morning. We had the chance to see quetzals!
