friendly, pretty location
I used the Waldbad at the campground for a week.
Main pool is a bit green, really, but it's in use and doesn't seem to be making anyone sick. It is 1.8 m at shallow end and 3.6 m at deep end, with a diving board. There is also a separate kiddy pool with clear, cleaner water. Changing room building does not appear to be in use any longer. Free parking is available. For that matter, swimming is essentially free also. Not attended, though campground office is nearby. Upon inquiry, they said we were welcome to swim. Approach pool by car via "An der Hech" or "Ziegenrucker Str." rather than "Am Campingplatz". For camping, approach via "Am Campingplatz".
The glory days of this complex were clearly in 1960s or 1970s, but they've got WiFi at the pool. :-)
It looks like they have about 17 cottages still in service. There are a number of DDR era cottages no longer in use. There are several "permanent" campers, as one often sees in campgrounds, with carport-like roofs built over their trailers. Tent spots are available in a field-like setting next to a field. Overall, very nice location because it is not in a town. Just steps from complex and one is on trails into the biosphere reserve. Just a few hundred meters from a bus stop with service to Schleusingen. The campground office had local trail maps for sale. 1:35,000 is about the best map scale there is of the area, unfortunately. There is a kitchen for campers, and shower and WC building.

Don’t bother
We were travelling in a Camper around Europe. We had stayed 8 different camping locations throughout Europe. Admittedly we were planning as we went; however, had no problems communicating until here. I sent an email enquiring about vacancies, I filled out their online form and I sent a third email in German requesting availability. I also explained that we’re were travelling and email was intermittent and gave them a contact number and advised as we hadn’t heard we would attend and requested again if their was no room that they contact us. At no stage did I get any response we at all and on our arrival was told they were full.
From the outside the location was not good and the facilities looked old and run down.
I would not recommend at all, no customer service.

Udemærket plads
Pladsen var billig, så vi kunne ikke regne med alverden. Vi fik en plads lidt for os selv. For at få fat i personale, skulle man ringe på en klokke. Meget venligt personale. Pladsen fremstår lidt slidt, men ren og pæn.
