The whole ambience is depressing

The hotel is located away from the city center. From the outside it looks like a residential building. There is no reception desk to contact. The cleanliness is a positive. Special requests such as a second pillow are fulfilled. Everything else is unreasonable for a hotel. The rooms are in the style of the 90s or older. That can be OK. But I have never experienced such a tasteless "hotel". Mattresses are hard. Breakfast is enough to satisfy hunger. The whole atmosphere is depressing. Employees stroll to the service in everyday clothes.

The DDR is still alive

Just went back form a trip to Gera, former DDR (East Germany). Hotel Am Galgenberg still breaths the atmosphere of that time: large hotel, functional, no decoration, old fashioned. Location is some 10 minutes form center (by car). No restaurants in neighborhood.
The room was clean and situated at the back of the hotel. Bathroom and shower were very small. Bed was terrible (worst I ever slept in). Walls are rather thin so you can hear your neighbors (lucky I had quiet ones...).
Breakfast is buffet and very basic. Car park is free and in front or back of the hotel.
At the time I was there construction-works were done next door, so from 07.30 AM there was some noise from the construction-workers.

basic and overpriced

I had to stay there because of a car accident as it was near the highway. Hotel is a 30 min-walk uphill from city centre and from the train station. En suite rooms start around 45 €, are small and basic with small TV (only German channels) and AC. Breakfast is German style (cold cuts, cheese, boiled eggs) and included. There is no gym and swimming pool and no shops nearby (some groceries are a 10 min walk downhill). A taxi to the train station will set you back around 15 €.

Monteurzimmer-Qualität

Das Hotel ist deutlich in die Jahre gekommen. Ich war für 2 Nächte dort, um Freunde zu besuchen. Im Bad waren Ameisen. Alles hat schon deutlich besser Zeiten gesehen. Versiffter Teppich im Zimmer. Auch die Möbel recht klapprig.
Die Matratze im Bett war in Ordnung. Zum Übernachten, wenn man seine Zeit sonst nicht dort verbringen möchte, sicher ok. Aber es hat wirklich die Qualität eines Monteurzimmers.
Die Dame am Empfang kassierte ab und konnte leider keine Rechnung ausstellen. Ich habe 10 Minuten drauf gewartet, dann bin ich gegangen, aber bis dahin hatte sie es noch nicht geschafft, die Rechnung aus dem PC zu kriegen.

Es ändert sich etwas

Ich war wieder einmal in Gera und wieder im Hotel am Galgenberg. Ich vermisse die alte Besatzung und damit die Freundlichkeit. Die Dame an der Rezeption war nicht gerade die freundlichste. Sie versteht auch nicht alles was man sagt. Ich bin nun schon über Jahre Gast, aber diesmal war es nichts mehr. Die Bedienung freundlich, ob am Tage oder zum Frühstück, aber die Frau an der Rezeption hat mich endtäuscht. Wo sind die alte Besatzung mit ihrer Freundlichkeit?
