Historic Charm, Great Location and food

Location: We thoroughly enjoyed our 7-night stay at Cugó Gran Macina. Staying inside a beautifully restored historic fort that has been sensitively and cleverly restored. The quiet and scenic area of Senglea was fantastic. The regular ferry with a 10 minute trip into the heart of Valletta made getting around effortless.
Outstanding Service: The entire team was excellent. A special thanks to Valentina at reception for being so helpful, and Martha for taking great care of us with poolside service.
Dining: Breakfast was amazing with plenty of cooked options. The hotel restaurant is easily one of the best in the area—we ended up eating here three nights! The “Enchante” restaurant just 5 minutes away on the harbour is also excellent (for when the hotel restaurant is closed).
Rooftop Pool: The pool is a bit small and could use more shaded loungers, but the views from the roof are stunning. There is no pool side bar but it’s easy to order what you want delivered to your sub lounger.
Rooms: Rooms vary widely in size and layout due to the building's existing architecture. Our Senglea Suite was very spacious for three adults, though it could do with a slight refurb. My mother’s initial room (105) was quite dark due to deep-set window and wasn't fully clean on arrival, but reception resolved this quickly and moved her to a new room (103) without issue. (Note: The booking platform asks you to pick a specific room, though this wasn't provided). There is a minor issue with the old mortar causing some dust on the floor but it’s a minor gripe. WiFi coverage was perfect and the room has TV with a lot of channels.
Activities: You can get beauty treatments in your room but we didn’t opt for this. The hotel recommended a good boat tour for us. Perhaps more use could be made of the rooftop for guests (usually for events) perhaps a communal guest feast?
Overall, a unique, high-quality stay with fantastic service in a convenient and beautiful area with delicious food. In terms of value I felt it was maybe a little expensive but still better value than some of the other luxury hotels and in a good location. Highly recommended!

Fabulous stay!

Our stay at Cugo Gran Macina was one of the highlights of our trip to Malta. We were fortunate to be upgraded to the Presidential Suite, and waking up each morning to the stunning views over the marina was simply unforgettable. The suite was spacious, beautifully designed, and made our stay feel extra special.
The location is excellent. We loved being able to take the ferry across to Valletta, which made exploring the city incredibly easy while allowing us to return to the peaceful atmosphere of Senglea at the end of the day.
A special thank you to Rafal and Valentina, whose warm hospitality and outstanding service truly stood out. They went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and looked after throughout our stay.
Breakfast was another highlight, with a generous spread offering plenty of fresh and delicious options to start the day.
We left with wonderful memories and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again on our next visit to Malta.

Beautiful unique hotel but service is not 4/5 star.

Beautiful and unique hotel in a nice neighborhood a short boat ride away from the hustle and bustle of Valleta.
Great views from our room and the pool deck. Room was spacious and well designed.
Service could have been better though. We were told breakfast was included by the staff so my family of 4 ate there every morning believing it was part of the package. We even ate there when we would have skipped breakfast or ate at other locations. Then on our last day they tell us breakfast is not included. So it was annoying and a disappointing part of the experience.
When I told the staff this they did not seem to care. I thought it would have been appropriate of a 4/5 star hotel to comp a meal given they clearly screwed up misleading us into eating at the hotel breakfast each morning.
The hotel also tried to bill us for an inbound transfer ride from the airport we did not use because we could not find the driver. We looked around for 20-25 min and emailed the hotel but could not get anyone to call us back so we took a cab. They told my wife we would not be charged but they kept it in the bill. They did quickly removed at check out however.
Overall we enjoyed the stay but if you are use to 4/5 service you may be disappointed.

Dear Alan,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your recent stay at Cugó Gran Macina.
We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the unique character of the hotel, the spacious room, the beautiful views, and our location within the Three Cities.
At the same time, I was sorry to read about the confusion regarding your breakfast package. Having reviewed your reservation, I can confirm that the rate booked did not include breakfast. However, it is clear that there was a miscommunication during your stay, and I sincerely apologise for any confusion this caused.
With regards to the airport transfer, I have also looked into the matter. Our trusted chauffeur tracked your flight and waited at the airport for over an hour after your scheduled arrival time. Unfortunately, we were unaware that you had experienced delays after landing, and as a result the transfer could not be completed. Whilst I am pleased that the transfer charge was promptly removed from your bill at check-out, I am sorry for the inconvenience this caused.
All your comments have been taken seriously and have been shared and discussed with our team, as this is certainly not the experience we strive to provide.
Should you ever consider returning to Malta, I would be delighted if you contacted me directly so that I can personally assist with your reservation and ensure you enjoy the experience we aim to deliver.
Warm regards,
Elena

Overall a very beautiful property. We found the rooms to be dark with most windows opening to internal areas of the hotel. The stone walls make for a damp room that can sometimes smell a bit musky. The bathrooms are modern but dark. The restaurant is fabulous. The staff and overall location is excellent. Located far away from the tourist chaos of Valletta.
