ABSOLUTE MUST STAY! CLEAN AND AMAZING FOOD

Wish I could give this place 100 stars! I stayed here for 5 total nights with two other friends during our ski trip to Hakuba and from start to finish our experience was incredible. Tsuyoshi (the manager) and his family are so kind and generous and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable, including picking us up late in the evening from our train station and giving us rides into Hakuba. The facility is very clean and a great location to ski in and out if you want to ski the Cortina area. There is no laundry in the building but the staff will take your laundry and return it to you the following day for a small fee if you wish. The showers downstairs are a miniature version of an onsen and very refreshing, including a hot bath area. Finally, DO NOT SKIP THE DINNER OPTION for your stay. We had dinner there on our last night and it was authentic and amazing, wish we would have eaten there every night. As others have reviewed, this place is perfect if you’re looking for an authentic Japanese, family experience, not to party. Truly a Happy House! :)

Amazing Dinner

Keep returning for amazing dinners. This is my Fifth time back because each dinner is exceptionally prepared and very unique. Japanese fusion using farm to table foods. Presentation is amazing but once you take a bite the flavors are incredible! Each portion seems small but by the end you are full. Just make sure you save room for dessert! This time it was a very fresh apple pie sorbet!

Beautiful dinner

We were at Happy House for dinner last night. It’s our second time and we were not disappointed. Dinner started with scallops and cucumbers with tofu. Followed by fish fry and beef katsu. The chef was pushing our boundaries of our what we thought was Japanese cuisine.
It’s my 3rd time back and not disappointed. If staying nearby is a must for great dinner.

Everything was wonderful

Great place, ski in ski out location just no green slopes for beginners around. We were beginner skiers and tried the intermediate slopes on cortina and norikura, forced to but it built our courage for sure. Just won’t recommend if you have only skied once to choose this location as a ski in ski out place. Beginners will need to take a shuttle (500yen each way).
Tsuyoshi was so friendly and nice, picking us and dropping us from happo bus terminal. He gave a us a lift to Norikura one day too. The dinner is a MUST try. Yoshi's mother cooks the food and dinner was definitely something we looked forward to at the end of every day. Halfboard definitely recommended.
Bath is only open after 4pm, small little onsen but it was definitely enough for us after a hard day of skiing. If you want a bigger one, consider cortina (1000yen). It's a small comfortable place, clean and very cosy. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. There's a dry room for you to drop off your skis and snowboards, with a heater where you can hang up your gloves and scarves. Ski tickets and rental can be arranged through happy house. It's much cheaper than compared to buying direct from cortina or norikura! The ski rental equipment were in great conditions, prolly the most comfortable ski boots I ever wore! Definitely will choose to stay at happy house again! Thank you Yoshi and family!

Great Golden Week break.

I took my family from Osaka and stayed at Happy House fir Golden Week. This place is tucked away in a very quiet area and was one of the most relaxing stays we've ever had. Perfect hiking base located right next to a ski field you'd be able to ski right in and out in winter.
The food was absolutely amazing, a kind of Japanese/Western fusion that was absolutely wonderful. There aren't many restaurants in the locality so it's definitely worth reading in for sure. The onsen style bath although small was great although a little hot but adding a bit of cold took second and made it perfect after a days hiking. All the staff are a family and beyond helpful and hospitable.
Finally, the lounge in the loft area was perfect for the kids, PS3, good selection of games, movies and plenty of manga comics kept the little ones entertained while the adults finished dinner and socialized. Great stay, many thanks.
