Great hotel

Great hotel with intime inviroment, very clean, Nice location.
The hoset family very nice even though they are not English speakers, very friendly and kind.
Nice and fresh breakfast.
Highly recommended.

A great small hotel in the beautiful Wachau, with an amazing restaurant

It is a beautiful modern hotel in a 600+ year old building. The rooms are huge, with confy beds. The owners are welcoming and great to chat to and in the evening, when their restaurant is open, even better chefs. And all this is topped off by a brilliant breakfast in the morning.
Bottom-line, definitely a place I will be visiting again :)

Modern accommodations in an age-old building

This was my first visit to the gorgeous Wachau and the Ur-Wachau was the perfect place to stay. Located on the main street of the little town of Weissenkirchen, this small hotel is a great base for exploring the Wachau region. Built in the 1300's, the hotel retains its original architectural charm and is furnished in beautiful country style, but all the modern amenities are there, too. There's a lovely parlor for gathering and relaxing, and a covered outdoor space as well. The husband-and-wife owners are extremely accommodating and friendly, and the feeling there is very inviting. There's a small, but excellent breakfast to be had, and dinner, too. The town of Weissenkirchen is enchanting, full of beauty and history, and so is the entire Wachau region. I'm very much looking forward to returning next year, and will certainly stay in this hotel again.

the Wachau at its best

I have visited various places in the Wachau Valley through many years. Each time I look forward to the next visit. A place that truly added to my love for this area, was the Hotel Ur-Wachau in Weissenkirchen. Ur Wachau is an inn with a lot of personality, recently restored by the owners with perfect attention to details, that would please everyone who enjoys the pleasure of beautiful scenery, perfect hospitality and culinary specialties of the region.

Perfect combination of boutique inn and B&B

Hotel Ur-Wachau is located in the heart of Weissenkirchen, a quaint and attractive small town that is almost equidistant between two of the major sites of the Wachau wine region, Melk and Krems, and about ten minutes drive from the third major site, Duernstein. Beautifully and lovingly restored by the Roisl family in the last few years, this 13th century building now consists of five bedrooms, a breakfast area, a restaurant, and a wine cellar, all decorated tastefully in a highly appealing blend of traditional and modern. Everything the Roisls have done with their small boutique hotel spells quality. They and their helpful staff have created an atmosphere that offers the comfort of a B&B with the efficiency and service of a small boutique hotel. Four of the bedrooms are either regular doubles or mini-suites doubles, but even the regular doubles are nice sized. A delicious breakfast buffet is included, consisting of the usual Austrian fresh rolls, bread, breakfast meats, and cheeses, and the staff also offers egg dishes cooked on order (included). In the evenings the Roisls also operate a fine restaurant called Zechhaus that is co-located within the hotel. Parking is no problem - one can either park directly in front of the hotel or within a two minute walk of the building, and free wireless internet is available in all rooms. Like with many high quality boutique hotels and B&Bs, the hosts are extremely knowledgeable about the area, and will help with restaurant reservations, look up departure times for Danube river boat excursions and, of course, share their insights on local wines. All in all, the Hotel Ur Wachau offers a memorable and high quality experience for its guests.
