Don’t miss the breakfast!

We had a lovely stay here. The service was exceptional from start to finish, especially Dawn who served us breakfast. The rooms were fine and the food and menu at breakfast the highlight of our stay.

Good location, house keeping team need training

Nice location, friendly staff and great welcome. Booked our room for dogs and have to pay an extra £25 a night per dog, so £200 for our stay, which if we were having a clean room I do not mind one bit. However room cleaning very poor, the bed was not even made 3 out of the 4 days, mud on floor from day one and dog hair still on edge of bed, bibs not emptied, tea not replaced etc paying £200 extra and get the worse service is not great and has reflected badly on the entire stay. As I say the front of house staff are lovely, very helpful and can not do enough, the bar has a good choice of beers and whiskey but overall let down completely by the housekeeping team.

Tired and needing upgraded

Breakfast was very good, room was not, needs upgraded, bathroom had paint flaking off facings and dust along skirtings. No fan in bedroom ,very warm.

Poor treatment by hotel reception

The young lady seated at the reception desk who checked us in on 14th Aug excelled in her efforts to be unhelpful in the nicest possible way.
Our room was the farthest possible from hotel reception and because our luggage would have taken us more than one trip and we are both in our 70s, we asked for assistance and a fit young man was found to help us. He forgot however to bring our remaining suitcase, so after waiting sometime, my partner set off to retrieve the missing piece and I called reception, only to be met with a completely unapologetic response from the same young lady.
Also, upon checking in I requested extra pillows. Again, they didn’t come so I followed up only to receive what could best be described as a dismissal. I advised her we were hoping to have a rest before dinner so needed them “now”. She then brought pillows but less than we’d asked for.
Service staff in “The Grill” were very nice. Which was very noticeable after our treatment by the receptionist.
The room was very small and a little claustrophobic. Two normal black teabags and four green tea bags plus other herbal teas were provided with a note saying you could purchase more.
As I’d had a slight injury that day I called to ask about a foot treatment in the hotel spa but was very politely told there was nothing available, with no suggestion of any alternative other than to come back on a day after we’ve already left the hotel.
The bathroom was tiny. We each found that to sit on the toilet, one needs to be careful to remain upright or you will bang your head on the shower screen! .
I now have two rooms booked in at another hotel in Oban for four nights in the very near future. The Oban Bay Hotel has lost me.

Great Hotel, but bathroom was challenging

The hotel is very elegant, with classy lobby. We had a Classic Double room, 362. Nice room but SMALL, and the bathroom is literally 3 feet wide, with the toilet facing the shower, so it is very difficult to sit down and getting back up is challenging - your knees are banging on the shower. The shower is very good and has plenty of hot water. The older lady that checked us in was very distracted and uninterested, not what I would call a welcoming reception. The room was not ready. She told us to sit down in lobby, so we did, and after a half hour I checked and she said she gave the key to my wife already. She gave the key to some other lady in the lobby, having forgotten who we were. Worst 'check in' process I have ever had. The included breakfast was excellent. The location is also close to town and very walkable.
