Cromwell House Stay

Ideally situated on Cavendish Place, and literally a 2-3 mins walk down to Eastbourne's Pier. Clean room & bathroom, offering a comfortable, single bed, tv, chest of drawers, wardrobe, tea/coffee making facilities, sufficient toiletries, hair dryer on request. Friendly proprietor. Quite safe & secure, all in all.

The photos on the website are very deceptive and look to be several years old, at least. The entrance is via a locked door, with a lock requiring a PIN. We had to phone the guy when we arrived, as the PINs supplied by Trip.com, which I had not appreciated were for entering the building, did not work. There is no reception area or staff in the building. There are no flowers outside and the general external appearance is very run down. Not helped by local drunks sitting on the step yesterday evening. There is no dining room and the only "common area" is the entrance hall, stairs and landing. The rooms are clean enough and the bathroom is fine, if rather basic. But in two of the rooms we had, the curtains did not close properly. The bedroom doors are only closed with a latch-style lock - there is no deadlock or anything more substantial. The two female friends who had also booked rooms here decided to pay to go elsewhere, as they did not think it was safe. Their fears may have been exaggerated, but it definitely was not what we had signed up and paid for.

Never again

Pictures on the Internet are years old. Breakfast booked and paid and not received. Neighborhood completely rundown. Garbage everywhere, house stairs haven't seen a cleaning rag in years. Probably used to be somewhat, now just run down

Quite some way below expectations

The room had not been cleaned and prepared to acceptable standards. The white pillows had some stains, and it looked like the covers had just been pulled up from when the previous occupier had left. Creased linen and stained pillows were really a put off.
The adjoining shower was quite disgusting in that there was someone else's s hair on the floor from a previous stay. Parking is a bit of a nightmare, which is typical of the town, but the establishment could at least provide validated parking similarly to others in the area.
The establishment is more of a halfway house than a hotel. Unfortunately, I arrived just after 18h00 when there was no one at reception who could have assisted with resolving some of the challenges, although to be they were available on the phone and were able to provide directions on how to access the property as well as where to find parking.
