Great place that supports the local community

We spent 2 nights in Ntebeko Homestay and highly recommend it. Emma was our host and we had our own vehicle but happily gave him the keys to drive us to dinner in the nearby village (great food with fireside dining!!). It would have been a pleasant 20-30 minute walk through a friendly village with lots of outdoor market and evening socializing, but both nights we were exhausted from the day's activities so were relieved to let Emma's drive and show us around. He was a great guide, even took us to a great local place for lunch and for groceries after our gorilla trek.
The house was very comfortable, quiet, wonderful breakfasts, good beds and warm blankets, plenty of hot water, and very strong wifi. We got a decent cell/mobile signal, too.
The Homestay is very close to one of the Mgahinga Park gates, a 20-30 minute walk or 5-7 minute drive. I believe it changes based on where the gorillas are located in the park, but in Jan 2026 the Golden Monkey tours started here and the gorilla treks started from the other entrance 45 minutes away. (Emma drove us in our own car to the gorilla start so we didn't get lost!))
The homestay was a bit challenging to find on our first night because Google Maps isn't valid on the remote road systems in rural Uganda, and we had to backtrack to Kisoro to find the signs to Mgahinga from the main road. I recommend getting directions from the Homestay in advance (email them to ask) because once we understood the directions it wasn't difficult but it was confusing initially. If it's rainy, the roads will be very slick and difficult to navigate so allow extra time.

Unforgettable wonderful experience.

The homestay was simple, clean, secure, and well kept. The bed was comfortable. It was excellent due to Emma who took complete care of us; stress-free! We were self-driving and had a gorilla permit for the following morning. We arrived at the homestay in the early evening exhausted from a time-crunched drive to get across the border after starting from Kigali at mid-day. Upon arrival at the homestay, Emma acted as our personal assistant/driver/guide during our two night visit. We drove us to the restaurant for dinner. He prepared our breakfast. He drove us to the park gate staging area for the gorilla trek, and he toured us through Kisoro for lunch after the trek. He was professional and we very much enjoyed his company.
It was a culturally enriching experience.
The homestay is also expanding with another building starting construction.
