A Hidden Gem in Katakolo – Exceptional Hospitality at Althea
We had the pleasure of staying at Althea Apartments in Katakolo, and it was truly an exceptional experience. From the very first moment, the owner, Giota, and staff welcomed us with such warmth, kindness, and genuine hospitality. They were always polite, friendly, and attentive, making us feel right at home.
Our room was spotless, in excellent condition, and provided everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Although we did not have a direct sea view, we thoroughly enjoyed the breathtaking view of the sea from the beautiful bar area, which added a very special touch to our mornings and evenings.
The breakfast was truly outstanding – fresh, rich, and prepared with great care. Everything was of the highest quality, beautifully presented, and served with a smile. The variety was impressive, from fresh fruits and local delicacies to perfectly prepared savory and sweet options. Every detail reflected the love and dedication of the staff, making breakfast a highlight of our stay.
We come from New York and having traveled and stayed in many places, I can confidently say that Althea stands out as one of the very best. It combines comfort, cleanliness, excellent service, and heartfelt hospitality in a way that is rare to find.

First misleading information: it was not 200 m from the center but 1 km on a main road that if you went on foot you risked to be killed by the cars that passed next to you. Second, they say breakfast is on the price and they charge you the coffee without you being informed in advance. Third exactly below the accommodation is the main street that continuously passed by car and motorcycles with steam cuts with the effect of always sleeping with winded windows and never sitting on the balcony. Fourth, when leaving, the owner of the accommodation showed a special resentment for her refund as leaving the breakfast buffet reminded us that we will meet in a little while...
In the rest, the clean and neat room has an elevator that goes only until the first hour after you climb the stairs over something especially painful when you have luggage and children

Θα θέλαμε να διευκρινίσουμε πως η απόσταση που εμφανίζεται στη Booking(αν απο εκεί το είδατε) υπολογίζεται αυτόματα από την ίδια την πλατφόρμα, χωρίς δική μας παρέμβαση. Στην επίσημη ιστοσελίδα μας δεν αναφέρεται συγκεκριμένη απόσταση, και λυπούμαστε ειλικρινά αν υπήρξε παρανόηση.
Σχετικά με το σημείο του καταλύματος, καταβάλλουμε κάθε δυνατή προσπάθεια να παρουσιάζουμε μια ακριβή εικόνα μέσα από φωτογραφίες και περιγραφές – στις οποίες φαίνονται τόσο η πρόσβαση όσο και τα σκαλιά. Δεν έχουμε πρόθεση να αποκρύψουμε κάτι· αντίθετα, στοχεύουμε στη διαφάνεια και τη σωστή ενημέρωση των επισκεπτών μας.

Very good choice.
Very good guest house, clean spacious rooms, polite and hospitable staff. Very beautiful sea view, large terraces, excellent equipment, quiet, in an ideal lobby of high standards, wonderful brunch.

Great accommodation, uninspiring town.
We had a fairly long drive from the lovely port town of Pilos to the less inspiring port of Katakolo.
On arrival at Althea Apartments, which is about 1 klm out of the port, we were met with a friendly welcome and then shown our excellent room on the second level (a bit of a hike up a lot of stairs).
The complex feels brand new. Our room (210) had a fabulous outlook from a good sized balcony with table, chairs and hanging chair. The room featured a wooden vaulted ceiling, probably the best shower room we’ve encountered on our 3 week tour of the Pelopponese, a flat screen tv, air cond, sofa bed and a comfortable bed although the springs were audible!. Very nice decor and furniture and spotlessly clean.
Breakfast was plentiful down in the reception lounge.
So the apartment complex was fine but the port was uninspiring. It caters mainly for the cruise ships which arrive early morning to offload passengers onto transport bound for Ancient Olympia and then depart mid to late afternoon. Lots of gift shops, horse and cart rides… all the trappings to relieve cruise shippers of their loot.
The cafes and restaurants along the waters edge provided some peace and quiet once all the ship tourists had gone.
We had a comfortable stay but the location would dissuade us from returning.
