Charming Riverside Inn
After reading some of the previous criticisms, we were a little anxious about our upcoming visit to the Wayside Inn, but we were overwhelmed by this inn’s charm and comfort. We had a wonderful four-night stay and can’t wait to return. We had a comfortable, clean, and spacious room in the main building, with a beautiful view of the Ammonoosuc river; it had two large wing back chairs for resting and relaxing, and a queen-sized four poster bed. We left the window a bit open and fell asleep each night to the gentle sounds of the river.
Now for the food: breakfast, which was included in the rate, making the Inn overall a great value, was cooked to order and was absolutely delicious! It was an experience we looked forward to every day: we ate freshly cooked eggs, with sausage or bacon, real home fries, and toast, plus blueberry pancakes as another choice were all scrumptious. The dining room overlooked the garden and the river beyond, and we watched hummingbirds dip into the feeder in the garden every morning. One morning, a juvenile bald eagle flew down the river, to our amazement.
After an active day exploring the White Mountains, we appreciated coming back to a generously portioned dinner at the Inn’s restaurant that went beyond our expectations. A hearty burger was elevated to the sublime when it was slathered with a jalapeño -peach jam. The tortellini mac & cheese was the ultimate comfort food and the buffalo chicken which was an added choice, gave it zing: the portion size was so generous that we also ate it for lunch on another day. Chicken Marsala was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. We were happily surprised by the flavor of the roasted strawberry, whipped feta and crostini appetizer. We thoroughly enjoyed all the meals!
This family-run Inn is really special. Its close proximity to hiking the National Forest and swimming and relaxing at nearby Forest Lake State Park help to make it a treasure. We highly recommend it and are looking forward to a return trip.

Charming older property, well-kept and unique. We enjoyed our stay here and a delicious, fresh cooked breakfast. A little bit of road noise in our front-facing room, but otherwise delightful.

The Wayside Inn is a charming historic property that feels like stepping back in time. I was told the inn dates back to 1844, and it has retained much of its character and old-world charm. The grounds are beautiful, with plenty of open space for kids to run around and play.
The staff were exceptionally courteous and welcoming throughout our stay. One of the highlights was the food. We loved the made-to-order breakfast, and the dining room's location next to a peaceful stream made the experience even more enjoyable. We also had dinner at the inn, and the scenic views from the dining room created a wonderful atmosphere.
The overall experience reminded me of a traditional bed-and-breakfast, offering a warm, cozy, and relaxing setting that is becoming hard to find these days.
A few things to keep in mind: there are no TVs in the guest rooms, although there is one available in the common living room. On the positive side, the Wi-Fi was excellent, with some of the fastest internet speeds we've experienced at a historic property. Also, because this is an older building, you may occasionally hear plumbing or heating-related noises, especially early in the morning.
Overall, if you're looking for a unique historic stay with beautiful surroundings, friendly staff, and excellent dining, the Wayside Inn is a wonderful choice.

Clean room they are working on the property making improvements. The breakfast is free with like 5 choices. The staff is always friendly. Plenty of parking on the river so you can walk and swim if you want. Also pet friendly
