Almost perfect
Very attentive and polite staff.
The pool is really good - towels are available poolside - and the bars are cosy and well stocked.
Breakfast choices were really good - plenty of vegan options. The terrace bar on the 18th floor was wonderful.
The location is a little out of the centre - it’s a very short walk to Camp Nou - but nothing a short can ride can’t fix, and bc it’s not in the city centre it means you have spacious grounds to relax in. Very enjoyable stat.

RedLevel failed to deliver the premium experience it promises
What made this particularly frustrating was that we reported the same issues to staff every single day. Every day we were assured that they would be addressed, yet three days later nothing had changed. This was not a one-off mistake—it reflected a lack of follow-through and management.
Cleanliness in the RedLevel lounge and terrace was consistently poor. Used plates and glasses remained on tables for extended periods, and outdoor sofas and chairs were stained, dirty and, in many cases, covered with bird droppings. Birds walked freely across tables where guests were eating, yet tables were often not cleaned afterwards. This raised obvious hygiene concerns and made parts of the lounge unpleasant to use.
Smoking was another recurring issue. Guests regularly smoked cigarettes and large cigars in the outdoor dining and lounge areas where families, including young children, were eating and relaxing. We raised this with staff, who understood our concerns and acknowledged the issue, but nothing changed during our stay. The result was that many meals and evenings were affected by second-hand smoke.
Food presentation also fell below expectations. Labels were frequently missing or incomplete, making it difficult to identify dishes and ingredients. For a hotel of this standard, guests should not have to guess what they are eating, especially those with allergies or dietary requirements.
The pool area also presented genuine safety concerns. Large sections of the wooden decking had lifted edges that caused guests to trip, while loose paving stones rocked underfoot. In a wet area where people walk barefoot, this is simply unacceptable.
General maintenance throughout the hotel felt neglected. Outdoor furniture was heavily worn, stained and dirty, giving the entire property a tired appearance rather than the luxury experience expected from a Gran Meliá hotel.
Housekeeping was inconsistent. On one afternoon our room was still being serviced at 3:30 PM, and despite the booking being for four guests, the room was prepared for only two. We had to request the missing towels and bedding ourselves.
Even basic facilities were unreliable. The coffee machine in the RedLevel lounge was frequently out of service. Instead of offering an alternative, guests were simply presented with a notice saying the hotel was "improving the facilities," leaving paying RedLevel guests without the hot drinks included in the service.
The most disappointing part was not that problems occurred—any hotel can have occasional issues. It was that they were reported repeatedly, acknowledged repeatedly, and still left unresolved throughout our stay. That is not the level of service or management one should expect from a hotel that markets itself as a five-star luxury property, especially not from its premium RedLevel experience.
Not everything was negative. The view from the 12th-floor was great and was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the hotel. Unfortunately, the poor maintenance, hygiene issues and lack of follow-through meant that the surroundings never matched the quality of the view.

A huge disappointment at the Torre Melina Gran Meliá Barcelona – service unworthy of a 5-star hotel
I had booked a 98 m² One Bedroom Master Suite RedLevel for a stay from July 23 to 27, 2026.
On the morning of my arrival, I contacted Meliá France customer service to simply request the addition of an extra bed, because we are traveling with our 2 children. To my great surprise, I was told that this was impossible for capacity and safety reasons. My reservation was therefore canceled and I was offered a 30 m² Supreme Family Room RedLevel (two connecting rooms), presented as the only solution adapted to a family of two adults and two children.
Upon our arrival, around midnight, for check-in, the receptionist offered us an "exceptional upgrade" for an additional €100 per night, to a Suite with a beautiful view of Barcelona. I accepted this proposal thinking I would benefit from a better experience.
What a surprise when discovering the room: it was smaller than the 98 m² suite that had been refused to me in the morning, much more expensive, and above all absolutely not adapted to our family. I still do not understand this inconsistency: how can a 62 m² suite be considered adapted for four people when a 98 m² suite was not a few hours earlier for safety reasons?
I went back down to the front desk immediately to find a solution. After more than an hour of discussion with the receptionist and his manager, I explained that the two extra beds could not fit in this suite. I was then offered to keep this suite because it has a connecting room and it will only be available the next day, but with a new supplement to pay, even though I had already added about €500.
I found this attitude very disappointing: instead of looking for a solution adapted to a problem created by the hotel itself, every proposal seemed to have the goal of making me pay more. The behavior of the receptionist and their manager was also very disappointing, with a lack of listening and empathy that is not worthy of an establishment of this standing.
I have already come several times to this hotel when it was still called Fairmont Barcelona, and the level of service was excellent. Today, I no longer find that quality.
We regularly stay in luxury establishments like the Mandarin Oriental, Ritz Carlton and the Four Seasons, where a sense of service and the search for solutions are an integral part of the guest experience. Unfortunately, we did not find any of these standards at the Torre Melina Gran Meliá.
I am attaching photos of room 1117 as proof, my husband and my son are sleeping on the sofa. Do you find this situation normal?
If I had been able to obtain a refund following this situation, I would have left immediately for another hotel. I will not return to this establishment and I do not recommend it.

Cordialement,
Alicia M., Gran Meliá Torre Melina Team

Look out for your security deposit!
I’m writing this on behalf of my daughter, who recently stayed at the hotel for three nights. She’ll probably never get around to posting her experience herself, so I’ve stepped in.
I actually felt a bit guilty about doing so because she called me from the hotel while she was there asking about the €600 security deposit. I told her that this is fairly normal in hotels and that there was nothing to worry about.
When she came home, she still hadn’t received it, so I reassured her again and said that in my experience these deposits are normally returned within 3 to 5 days at most.
Unfortunately, nearly three weeks later, she was still waiting.
In the end, it took two emails and a phone call before the €600 they confirmed via email they are arranging the refund.
To be fair, she thought the hotel rooms and facilities were fantastic and had very little negative to say about the actual stay. That’s why it seems such a shame that something as simple as returning a security deposit has left such a bad impression.
The €600 being held for nearly three weeks also genuinely affected her. It left her with very little money available during August and restricted what she was able to do.
You would expect a hotel charging the rates it does and presenting itself as such a high star property to have a fairly slick process for something like this. Once the room has been checked and there’s no issue, surely the deposit should be returned promptly.
I’m not suggesting for one minute that the hotel does this deliberately or that it’s a regular practice. But when you have to send two emails and make a phone call to get your own €600 back, it does make you wonder.
It’s a shame because the hotel itself was excellent. Unfortunately, the €600 deposit took nearly three weeks to find its way home. I suppose it had decided to extend its holiday!
