We've done a lot of traveling and this place was so unique! Very quaint and quiet. They incorporated the old character of Broome with a mix of modern-day amenities in our room which made it very special. This is a family run hotel and they were very helpful in making sure our stay was a great one. Breakfast made you feel like you were at home with family. They went out of their way to provide places to see, how to get around using the buses, and great restaurants to go to. I would definitely go there again when in Broome!

Absolute Zen ♥️

McAlpine House is one of those rare places that leaves you feeling completely restored.
Marylin and Gary have respectfully transformed this beautiful old home into an incredible boutique hotel, preserving its character while creating a space that feels luxurious, welcoming, and full of warmth. There is a beautiful sense of peace from the moment you arrive, with gentle jazz music softly playing throughout the house, adding to the wonderfully calming atmosphere.
The many sitting areas are thoughtfully designed and invite you to slow down, relax, read a book, or simply enjoy the tranquillity. Every corner has a beautiful energy that makes it difficult to leave.
Our room was stunning, with an exceptionally comfortable bed and a fabulous shower—everything was beautifully appointed without feeling overdone.
Breakfast each morning was delicious. It was simple, fresh, and clearly prepared with care and love, making it the perfect start to the day.
If you’re looking for somewhere to unwind, reconnect, and truly relax, McAlpine House is an exceptional place to stay.
Would I come back? In a heartbeat ♥️

We loved our stay at this very charming and unique property. The property is small and intimate with a lot of charm. It has a fascinating history and has been the home of a major figure of Broome’s history, Lord McAlpine after whom it is named. He is a major contributor to the development of Broome into the charming town it has become preserving its special historical character as a pearling center. The owner of the property is a lovely woman who engaged with us about the history of the property and Broome whose own family has a history with the pearling industry there. We strongly recommend a stay at the Pinctada McAlpine House.

An interesting property with the potential to be very special with more care and attention.

When travelling, we always focus on our chosen accommodation to be a reflection of it’s environment, so were very keen to stay at McAlpine House in Broome. Our first impressions were very favourable, it has a great deal of tropical charm with its architecture ,art and furnishings, an interesting history and we also enjoyed it being away from large resorts and within walking distance into Broome township. Not having a car there, it was a bonus to find a regular and punctual town bus route with a stop a couple of hundred metres from the property.
However, it has many unfortunate aspects as well, given it is certainly not inexpensive. The two part-time staff members Toshi and Celine were pleasant and helpful, but it was obvious more staff or a better attention to detail regarding presentation are both essential.
We are aware the climate of Broome can be a challenge to general infrastructure, but with that comes a need to keep on top of even basic maintenance.
The gardens were a mess of neglected plants and fallen branches, and the placement of large aviaries with depressed parrots in an area of limited space was very unfortunate. Signage was faded, the boardwalks had lifting boards, creating a possible tripping hazard, the nighttime lighting was inadequate, and the open laundry service area was untidy and chaotic. Though our room was spacious and very comfortable , the bathroom flooring needs urgent steam cleaning as it appeared to be showing mould.
Having read reviews which indicated fabulous breakfasts, we have to disagree. There were only two options of very ordinary cereal, no milk alternatives, and a small loaf of bread , the slices of which got lost in the toaster. We had a good serve of yoghurt, followed by very nicely cooked omelettes or poached eggs, alternated daily, but this was all.No juice, no fruit, ham, bacon, pastries etc., no coffee other than black. One other guest was particularly unhappy about only having cereal and toast for breakfast, not being able to eat eggs.
So, overall, a disappointing experience , given it could be a delightful property with more expenditure and care.

Fabulous Broome boutique accommodation.

Pinctada McAlpine House provided such a warm welcome after our two week Kimberly camping tour. The house is extremely well appointed with comfortable beds and modern bathrooms. Our bedroom opened onto a side verandah with comfortable cane furniture. The breakfast the next morning, cooked by owner Marilyn Paspaley, was delicious and generous. A lovely pool sits in the middle of the property. Marilyn’s warm and generous personality, was also reflected in the good insights and recommendations for our stay.
